Rollercoasters
I would like rollercoasters alot better if it weren't for the instant headaches.

The big amusement park in Houston, Astroworld, shut down in 2005 due to declining attendance. But there might be a new rollercoater being built at the Kemah Boardwalk, an entertainment center between Houston and Galveston.

No! I loved Astroworld! I seriously thought my dad was making that up! Well, at least I've still got my Kings Island, even if that is way over in Cincinatti...

this topic reminds me of the time i took one of my sisters on a ride called "the gravitron" at the county fair in yuma arizona. first of all let me say that i love being spun around in circles and losing control. my sister hates it i bribed her with $5 (at the time, early 90's) 5 dollars was alot of money, sooo she took me up on the offer. now then i knew she was afraid of the ride, but what happend once on shocked both of us, i had a girl voice as my voice had not yet "changed" so if there was any screaming nobody knew who was doing the screaming. anyways to make a long story short my sister scremed and i screamed. i threw up and loved it, i like vomiting for some reason and the gravity made all of combined puke exit out the top of the ride and got all over EVERYONE standing outside waiting there turn. hahaha

I liked the Cyclone, Excalibur, XLR8, and the Tidal Wave (despite always getting a rash after riding it).

I don't remember any of the ride names specifically, but I do know that there were three or four roller coasters I just loved as well as a log flume and white rapids ride. At Kings Island, though, my favorite coasters there are The Beast, The Racer, and The Vortex! I really want to try out Son of Beast, but the lines are always so long!
I went from being fearful of roller coasters to being obsessed with them for a while.
I actually enjoyed them the most when I was most nervous about them. Odd really. I think the strong sense of anticipation and adrenaline made the rides feel more significant. I just remember how scared I was waiting in line for the tallest ride in Cedar Point. I remember the dramatic release of anxiety and accompanying euphoria after that first big drop.
As an adult I don't enjoy them as much. They kind of bore me and the meager thrill isn't worth the lingering headache I always get.
I don't like big roller coasters. Well ok, I admit I haven't really been on a "big" rollercoaster, but I would be afraid to go on one. But get this: roller coasters are a special interest of mine. I just love to watch them, learn about them, look at pictures of them. I find them beautiful. I wouldn't go on them, but they fascinate me. Weird eh? I just wish I wasn't afraid of them. Although maybe its not so weird because I read in Tony Attwood's guide that sometimes Aspies can have interests on things that they fear.
Still I'm probably the only person who's fascinated by roller coasters, yet won't go on them.

here I go bumping an ancient thread...
My "new"-ish boyfriend and I visited the original model for Astroworld..
I can only claim to having been to a few amusement parks...and my mom was a portrait artist at Astroworld..in the late 70's and early 80's, but he, at one time was a very big "Roller Coaster" enthusiast..and knows a lot of stuff about rollercoasters...
He was part-founder of this site...

Here is footage of the "model" for Astroworld with him talking about it...the female sounding babbling noises are me...the music at the end is his...

not sure if WP is letting me post videos these days, but i will try again...otherwise, if above link does not work, you can find what I am talking about on my Youtube page..

I get physically ill before getting on rollercoasters. The anticipation...waiting in line...it's horrible. The rollercoaster has to be enclosed, meaning no coasters where my legs hang loose. I have to feel like I have some sort of control. Thunder Mountain at Disneyworld is about my speed.
I love roller coasters. I once rode The Rattler at Fiesta Texas 16 times in a row. I didn't even vomit. The park is practically dead on Sundays. No lines means hours of riding.

I can't wait to go to an amusement park with him... his knowledge of roller coasters is crazy-in-depth...Some sort of annual roller coaster enthusiast convention is happening in Texas this year..it's in June..in Dallas..
I will deal with the headaches...I mainly got headaches on the Cyclone...and then on the boardwalk bullet (the roller coaster in the closest proximity to us)...but that could partially be because of who I went on the rides with..
