Good call. And 8O if it was a true post.

It may a hidden ToM test here.

It's probably just the I2 crowd, their "Killing a dead horse" society specifically. That's only a guess though, but it seems as likely as not.

Oh man, I wish they have the gender displayed right under avatar or something. :) Maybe pink for ladies and blue for guys. I just didn't suspect because OP had so many posts. That's it dude - you owe us a picture of you wearing red heels, tank top and mini skirt and a glittery clutch. :D

*There are quite a few purse threads in the ladies forum if anyone's genuinely interested.

You're right! Clearly you have a ToM since you "read my mind".

I was actually a bit surprised that it was taken seriously by so many (Especially with my not-so-feminine title of "System Architect and Nanobot Commander"), but I guess that's a good thing because that suggests I was convincing which means I play pretend fairly well, which means I probably have at least a sort-of-well-developed ToM. I knew what was going on, I just found it baffling that anyone would mention designer bags on WP, even to test theory of mind. :?

Hehe, I chose designer handbags as the topic because it's such an "NT" thing for a female to talk about and, like an NT, I focused on how "cute" or "fashionable" it was.

Anyways, I honestly was sort of expecting someone would recognize it was a joke and start joking about it. That didn't seem to happen though, oddly.

I think swbluto pics in his/her "usual garb":

"Remember, I need the handbag that looks cutest on me! I wear red high-heels and a red tank-top with a miniskirt some days, and on other days, I wear a dress and black boots."

would complete the joke!

Well being an aspie doesn't mean you can't like purses, especially if you're a lady. :D I have a membership at a purse forum, at a jewelry forum, a makeup forum and many other. A person's special interest can be anything really. I go through my interests in phases and rotate them regularly, so I tend to know something about everything.

It's not. SWbluto is not a member there.

Anyway, even if he's trollin'........ I remember the D & B bags I saw on eBay being a really interesting, well detailed, yet similarly priced alternative to Guess bags* (which every fashionable girl has these days  ). I like a bit of colour and detail on my handbags, I can't stand plain bags or bags in a solid colour much.

You can't get D & B bags in Australia though (David Jones has every designer brand BUT).

* Yes a genuine Gucci sells for a LOT more than a D & B bag. You can't really compare the two IMO.

So, I'm guessing autism is out of the picture? .... *puppy dog face* *thinks to self, "please say it's so!"*

Hehe, I disagree.

You may or may not have an issue with TOM.

Why do you believe everybody who posted here took you seriously?

"Playing along" as in pretending to (semi-)seriously consider (and by that "waste time") something that seems to serve no purpose other than social entertainment requires lots of TOM.

Playing pretend yourself is one thing (=I can lie), recognizing someone is pretending is another and requires somewhat more TOM (=I can lie and I know others can lie too).

Playing along with another's lie/game with limited ability to manipulate rules that change unexpectedly and subtly and with incomplete or unconfirmed knowledge of the creator's intentions requires the most TOM out of these three.

(=I can lie, I know that others can lie and I keep in mind that we can recognise each others' lies but that we can then still pretend they're true while knowing they're lies.)

Getting caught seems to mean you're not as good at pretending... but of course, being caught at lying may have been intentional...

And truth to be told, most normal people utterly fail at recognising they've been deceived into thinking they have successfully recognised a lie when in truth, all was set up for them to make sure they recognise the lie to better help the liar achieve an entirely different, still secret purpose.

(I don't think TOM is a particularly valid concept but whatever.)

Your post was one of the few posts I thought maybe you knew it was a joke, since it was a jab at the typical rationale females have for buying purses. And yes, I need to look important and special, dag nabbit! I NEED THE GUCCI!

And, honestly, I was expecting people to find me out right away, so I then I would ask about how well it demonstrated a theory of mind. But, it appears people didn't have a solid idea of my "real identity"?

That's almost unusual because... when I look at a username, I have a somewhat good idea of their probable age, their gender and their interests and things about them so I have a somewhat incompletely formed idea of that person's "identity", ultimately depending on how much information the user has divulged about themselves and how much of it I've read. I'm guessing this kind of "social awareness" isn't so common among aspies?

Or, no, better yet... I've been extremely elusive. A ha! (Or extremely uninteresting, lol.)
