I like the way they separate themselves from society, but what would be hardest for me would be the unbending hierarchy and religious doctrines. I also could never wear those clothes (don't the women wear wool stockings?); I'd go crazy, they look so incredibly uncomfortable.

I also get the impression they eat a lot of meat and dairy, which I wouldn't want to do.

I WAS going to join the Amish until they got all liberal. They now wear buttons, and the blacksmiths use air powered tools. Some houses have telephones. Oh sure, there I was, all ready to go and join up, and they BLOW IT ! !! Is there no one left with principals, with the guts to stick to their convictions???? Oh the vanity of it, all is vanity.

Although I always thought they should be flashing gang signs while the ladies danced like they do in rap videos, except wearing the long skirts and bonnets.

I've heard some amish women have even started going in public without bonnets. Have they no shame? How could they walk around with their hair in the open for everyone to see?
