10 December 1868, the first traffic lights were installed outside the British Houses of Parliament in London, by the railway engineer J.P. Knight. They resembled railway signals of the time, with semaphore arms and red and green gas lamps for night use. The gas lantern was turned with a lever at its base so that the appropriate light faced traffic. Unfortunately, it exploded on 2 January 1869, injuring the policeman who was operating it.

A lot of people think Hitler's real name might have actually been Schicklgruber, but it was actually Werbert.

On Oct. 25, 1854, the "Charge of the Light Brigade" took place during the Crimean War as an English brigade of more than 600 men, facing hopeless odds, charged the Russian army during the Battle of Balaclava and suffered heavy losses.

The Routemaster was concieved, between 1947 and 1954. The Routemaster Prototype was tested in 1954. The first fleet of Routemasters were hired into the London Transport system, in 1956.
