Very cute, but they're not domesticated which keeps reminding me of the woman who had her face (including eyes) chewed off by her pet chimpanzee. And there's what happened to Sigfried and Roy.

If someone figures out how to implant domesticated house cat DNA into the brains of tigers then sign me up, but until then I just want to watch through a fence or on Animal Planet.

That would be a cool pet to have. 8)

I also find giant cats to be utterly terrifying (in addition to the lack of trust for ones kept in zoos, parks and whatnot).

I've petted a tiger cub at a theme park once (Bengal). He was cute, of course, especially only being the size of a small dog.

When a big cat stares into your eyes, gazing and not breaking the stare, it's...something else.

The cougar is gorgeous and in a sense I am jealous like some others posted. The one problem I have with the whole thing is this: I've owned a lot of cats and I never had a cat that, at some point in its life, did not lose its temper. For some cats it might be a yearly or a once in a lifetime occurrence but it will almost certainly happen eventually. When my little kitties lose their temper you better watch out because they'll take a chunk out of your arm. When *that* thing loses its temper it could be your face that you lose. It's probably a lovely cat who is totally friendly 99.9% of the time. But then, for example, you have to put the spot on flea treatment on it's back. Or the cat has a "crazy hour" like cats do sometimes and sprints around the house pouncing on everything that moves. This isn't like having a big dog, even the biggest, nastiest dog has got NOTHING on a cougar. This thing has lightning reflexes, it can jump several metres in the air no problem, it can probably pounce 10m, it's probably a lot stronger than a strong man and has claws that could quite possibly disembowel a person.

I don't care how responsible that guy thinks he is being; there is nothing responsible about keeping big cats as pets. Any animal can flip out one day and if that one does someone could very easily die before anyone can do anything about it.

Not to mention the big cat could be simply playing and unknowingly hurt or kill its master.

Which is one of the two ways it can go.

See those little pet kitties that love ambushing your legs when you walk past? Add 4 inch claws and strength greater than a human to it.

I'm a liberal sort, so if people want to own such, good for them, but if one got out and was in my yard, he'd be getting a dangerous game 12 gauge slug through its shoulder, no matter how "friendly" it is.

One must take great care and caution with large cats they can be adorable and affectionate but when in hyper playful mood i would recommend avoid them at all costs. Cats can be rough at playing and will bite and scratch if one of those big boys got a hold of you its game over man. A lot of zoo keepers work with both wild and tame cats and even with tame cats that trust them they carry tranquilizer guns and such in case of those random wild streaks occur.

Oh, is that why we all seem to love them so much? :D

Yeah, I'm jealous of the guy as well, I'd love to cuddle them and everything and yet I just couldn't shake the feeling that it could so easily bite my face off! Like invisiblesilent wrote, you're basically completely at its mercy when you're next to it. If it decided to kill you there's not a thing you could do. But I guess that's a risk you take. We all have different risk comfort levels.

I love this video - cute cats, very well chosen to fit the captions (and I guess it helps that I like Enya, too). The photo at 1:08 is the best - I laughed out loud at that for about 10 seconds!
