Poor you. You should demand to get it back. Don't give up until you have it again. Disgusted by your moms behavior.
It sounds to me like the OP's mom was offended because she was asked why she was in the room. I don't know his age but I know my teenagers have gotten an attitude with me about being in their rooms doing something like cleaning or putting clothes away, etc. Not snooping, just doing normal mom stuff. That can really tick a parent off and if she thinks thats the attitude she was getting I can see why she would take the tv privelages away. Sure she said never again but she doesn't mean never again. That's just something we say.
Demanding to get it back would do nothing more than make sure the OP has to go without tv for a very long time.
Yes, the mom should have asked for clarification rather than yelled and said no tv, but everybody has a bad day once in a while and can snap at people like that. Her behavior is in no way disgusting for simply unplugging the tv and taking the remote. First off, unless he bought the tv himself he is in no way entitled to have it. He's entitled to certain things from his parents like food, clothing, shelter, care, etc but things like tv and internet and cell phones etc are not things that kids are entittled to. Please rethink your advice and also rethink it several times if you are ever in that type situation and decide to demand something like that from your parents and keep on until you get it back again. It will backfire. Badly.

What's it with Moms and tvs these days?
I don't remember an adult being banned from TV lately but I do remember one who was banned from board games, although I don't know who banned him.
I've always let my kids watch whatever they want on tv. I just explain that it's not real. We don't have any porn channels so that was never an issue. We never had an issue with nightmares or bad behavior from it. I've always let them play whatever video games they wanted too, it's never been an issue with mine. Never saw any bad results from it, and I think it would have created an issue if I had made it one. When I grounded mine I grounded them from going places or having friends over or the phone. I'd let them come sit in the livingroom in the evening and read or something while I was watching what I wanted to but I wouldn't change it to cartoons or put in a video for them. I think people make too big an issue of TV. I would think that nowdays, grounding them from the computer would be the best punishment, not so much TV, but I guess it depends on the kid. Mine will watch it if something is on they want to see, or if they can't get on the internet for some reason but I have no idea what it is with some parents and TV. I know a lot of parents who are like that about it. They monitor their kids tv watching and don't let them watch certain things, etc. I remember here that recently watching Harry Potter or Twilight were things that most of the other kids my kids hung out with couldn't watch. I never could figure that out.

I was just thinking the same thing and that's why I went overboard with my questions.

See lots of threads like this in my other forums and seems usually the OP never
answers any questions or returns with update.
Then again OP may have had internet taken away too.
Probably we will never know exactly what all happened or why.

I absolutely agree
So many bad parents, I am disgusted too. They are no better than whiny children, only they have more authority. OP's mom either has some kind of mental disorder or is a really bad person.
OP shouldn't demand TV back though, it would only make her mother angrier. She should speak to her calmly and make logical arguments. If that doesen't work she should just ignore her mother until she apologises.
OliveOilMom: I'm very glad you're not my mom.
Watching TV is NOT a privilege it is a RIGHT. The child didnt buy the tv him/herself? I am tired of this too common argument. For example, if mom stays home and dad works, will dad have the right to ground mom just because he earns money? Thinking that any object in your home doesen't belong to your child too is just very selfish. Also, who will punish parents for bad manners or not doing housework? Nobody, though I do not see adults having better manners, or being better people in general than kids.. They probably had been punished as kids, yet I don't know anyone, who became a better person because he/she was punished more often. It actually has the opposite effect.
Parents and children should have a friendly relationship instead of a hierarchical one. A child is more willing to discuss his/her problems or share his/her secrets with a friendly parent, who treats the child as an equal. Just think about it: Do you trust your boss or best friend more?
OP, I hope you got your TV back, even if you don't reply.
If taking away a child's TV because you're in a bad mood and you thought he said something rude is disgusting...
Good Lord. Where does that leave people like me?
I must be horribly repulsive when I'm in a bad mood. Absolutely nauseating. Please, everyone take one of these:

My dad use to take my stereo away. Usually I had no idea why. Unless it was my pacing. The master bedroom was under my room and he use to yell at me for walking in circles all the time. Having my stereo taken away wasn't that effective, he forgot I had a Walkman. I'd wait for everyone to go to bed and then listen to that all night.
