I think mass market color TV was more 1970s, then 60s. Yeah color TV existed in the 1960s, but most people still had black and white TVs, and even for those who had color TV, most TV programs were still filmed in black and white until the mid 1960s.

I do remember seeing color TV for the first time in about 1968. My Grandmother had a loaner color TV while hers was being repaired. It was pretty amazing for me to see. I mostly watched TV with my Grandmother in those days. Because my parents didn't even have a TV in our apartment until about 1969, and that was just a little 13" Sony black and white next to the dining room table. I think my Dad got it so we could watch the moon landings.

when my dad retired from the army in '66, the first civilian job he got was at an electronics store, and his first paycheck was a setchell-carlson 25" console color tv set, and I remember sitting in the big box it came in [5 years old] and watching the very first episode of Star Trek, that is where I noticed the fluorescent colors :jester:
