Lots of killing and fighting for really stupid reasons.
Women and minority groups being treated like sub-humans and being beaten, tortured, and enslaved.
The plague.
People drinking alcohol because drinking plain water full of dangerous bacteria could end up killing you, so people were drunk most of the time and human behavior was at its worst because of it.

The Titanic

Children dying from diseases that are now preventable by vaccines.
