So she transfigured herself into a giant dog and chased the cats away so that she could maybe, hopefully catch a break. Which she did because the Fates decided that enough terrible things had happened and it was time to get rid of the bad guys. Hence the opportune arrival of the Englishman in a very fast getaway car.
