Name your favorite urban legends.
They either have to be true, false, or have multiple meanings.
Have FUN!

My favorites go as follows:

Taco Bell ended its ad campaign because the dog got loose while filming and was never seen again.
False. Taco Bell ended its ad campaign in July of 2000 because sales were going down, but the dog became a cult icon.

On Sesame Street, Cookie Monster will turn into Veggie Monster.
False. Cookie Monster loves cookies, but will eat them in moderation.

Eating Pop Rocks and drinking soda will kill you!
False. 1 bag of Pop Rocks has enough carbonation found in 1/2 a can of soda.

A photo shows a soldier shaking hands with Hillary Clinton with his fingers crossed. TRUE. http://www.snopes.com/photos/military/crossed.asp

In The Lion King, a cloud of dust forms the word "SEX."
Sort of True. Judge for yourself. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Lionkg2.jpg

I don't know if this legend is known only in my country (anyway, even here it's not known that well, it used to be well-known about 1960's when it appeared, if I'm right but now it's rather forgotten) but there's such a plant, the china rose and according to this urban legend spending too much time close to it can cause cancer. As far as I know, the legend appeared in one hospital where there was a beautiful china rose in one of its wards. Patients wanted to graft it and nurses who were afraid that the rose can wither soon this way invented this story.

Tall Tales topic

I remember my NT mother used urban legends to get me to do what she asked. Her deceptions used to infuriate me. Now I am glad because I question everything, including information provided by well meaning forum members. It is always best to take everything with a grain of salt, and not to believe things without checking out sources and reasons. I know this is harder to do with all the information on the market but it is better not to jump to conclusions and carefully consider other options. This is what exposure to urban legends has taught me.
