Their technology level was ancient, but their place in time was medieval through renaissance so I didn't think they'd fit. I did think of placing them, but they are out of the timescale. Sorry.

Are you kidding? There were plenty and they sometimes decimated the populations of countries. Romans and Greeks especially tended to find the worse around the world...

Gladiators, if you fought them, you'd be sorry.

They are an interesting subject though. Although it was about Peruvians and not Mayans, Kon-Tiki was a very fascinating book I read. Europeans, possibly Scandinavians, helped the Peruvians advance their technology and then sailed to Polynesia.

I find Egypt more interesting, I can't really stop wondering on how they built the pyramids and all the other monuments and grave toombs. In modern day it would be a very, very big challenge just to make one pyramid, but the Land of the Dead toombs and all the passage ways are really fascinating, so many tunnels, so complicated illustration on the walls and their knowledge and technology is far beyond any other.

Just my two cents..

sumer. they did pretty much everything first. what about the proto-indo-europeans/kurgan culture?

The Kurgan hypothesis and the people group derived from commonalities in language?

For me, none of these. I find the Minoan civilization the most interesting. They were advanced for their time, and quite mysterious. No one knows for sure what type of language they spoke (Indo-European? Proto-Greek? Semitic? Hamitic?). And it's believed that they practiced a religion that involved human sacrifice. Also, their civilization has been associated by some people with the legend of Atlantis.

any party that includes a vomitorium is one I'm not lookin' forward to...;) The Romans I know a bit about, but there's a bit too much execution, falling on your sword, etc. If you were a slave, you could be sent to the Games as a punishment. you'd have to survive every fight you were in for 3 years to get out of that one. and that's if you could win the crowd over...')

Actually, I'd like to know more about all of them.
