but you'd have to ask someone else's advice on emo music since that's now not used as term anymore but an add-insult.

That's BS. That term is still used. You're just a little too old to know any emos I guess.

I still know of MANY people who still call themselves emo and there is even an emo genre of music.

What's your problem I never said emo is never used and I happen to know some emos myself. I guess you didn't read my feedback carefully. Your response sounds pretty bias and presumptious BTW.

Some people have 'phases' in their life, and this one is popular with teenagers. In a few years it will be over and in most cases they will be 'normal' again. It is like goths, skinheads, etc. most people get over it.

...heh. you called me not "normal."

unlike emo and goth, skins have a set system of beliefs. the other two are centered on fashion.

What are emos?

A type of person that presents as being emotional, sensitive, shy, introverted, and/or angsty; and that is also associated with depression, self-injury, and suicide.

And why do a lot of people here hate them?

They seem to both hate and pity themselves simultaneously.

Also, the ones I've met seem to be adept at twisting whatever I say or do into a personal attack, launch into a whiny rant about how no one understands them, and then sulk and pout until someone else comes along to repeat the cycle.

And there lies the big issues. People may associate being "emo" with self-harm and suicidal tendencies, but this is hardly the case with anyone who would be classified as emo. So in the end the definition, as usual when it comes to trends or subcultures, is very blurred and basically the whole description and image of the standard emo is a man-made one.

The problem lies not with the person classified as emo nor with being emo, the problem lies with people automatically linking emo to self-harm and suicidal tendencies. It is like those people who link goths to depression, not realising the majority of people who actually are in the gothic scene are full of self-humor and enjoying their lives to a good extend.

And how to disconnect the "Emo Image" from the true emo lifestyle? All it takes is for a few emo-types to commit suicide, and 'Poof!' the anti-image is reinforced.
