After some careful thought, I've decided NOT to have breast augmentation surgery. I am going to focus on my health, physically and mentally, rather than my looks. I will do my best to find clothes that work with my shape, and not worry about being a little different than average. I may not meet society's ideal, but I'm just fine the way I am. Thank you everyone for your input.

Well I can see you've made your decision but I still wanted to chip in with my 2c because I felt some people were a bit overly critical of the procedure.

I have had breast implants, it was reconstructive and not cosmetic but it's essentially the same operation.
I just wanted to clarify a few things as someone who has been through the procedure and spent a lot of time researching it.

SOME people have complications after the surgery but the majority of the people don't. You only ever 'hear' about the bad ones because everyone else goes on with their lives.

I have not had any ongoing complications after the surgery and I"m not suspicious that they are leaking in me or anything, and even if they were it's only saline. If you had particular concerns about that go for saline implants not silicone (saline still have a silicone shell but they are not solid silicone).

Your boobs will not 'drop' faster because they are 'heavier'. Actually I think they drop 'less' than natural boobs however droopage in general seems to be a genetic thing. I have had virtually no droopage and I've had my implants for 7 years now.

The likelihood of it affecting your milk ducts is very slim, especially if they are not inserted through the nipple. (They can insert under the breast crease, through the armpit and even through your navel).

It's true the downside is that they don't last forever. I dont know how often you would have to get the replaced, I think again it depends on geneteics to a degree. However if further down the track you didn't want to keep having ongoing surgery you can just take them out for good.

The smaller you go the less likely you are to get complications like capsular contracture (I also think this primarily happens with 100% silicone implants) because it's not as much strain on your body.

Even though mine was not purely cosmetic I can personally attest that having implants did absolute wonders for my self esteem and self confidence, and sure i'm still not 100% happy with my body (who is?) but I am must more comfortable with it.

and FINALLY even though mine wasn't cosmetic, it is possible to want, and get, implants or other cosmetic surgery for personal reasons and not to meet some societal standard of beauty that everyone just presumes is the motivation and frankly I think it's rude to try and tell someone their motivations for wanting something is wrong just because it doesn't meet your own personal belief system.

As someone who has tattoos I can't, without being a hypocrite, tell you that you shouldn't surgically alter your body, but in my opinion, breast implants look worse than natural breasts, regardless of their size or shape (on both accounts). I'm glad that you chose to keep your assets whole and unaugmented.

I heard taking oral contraceptives can help in that region.

They can also increase the risk of fatal blood clots.

They didn't for me. Not one little bit.
