Should I take medication
For PMDD? It's severe pms.
I can go most of the month being content, then a few days before my period I get very angry and depressed.
My anger can give me meltdowns daily and my depression can make me suicidal, I do think about it a lot.
People are always like 'what's up with you?' I feel like strangling them after.
I think medication is the only solution.
Here in the US we have a low dose oral contraceptive called Yaz that is marketed to treat PMDD. I currently take it, not for PMDD, but just for birth control and I really like it. It didn't make me gain weight, didn't make my breasts swell and become tender, and it slowly made my periods non-existent.......
Yaz has a lot of controversy surrounding it. I don't really want to go on the pill again, because I believe it's where I got the PMDD from.
I'll at least look it up and ask my doctor about it.
I was on a triphasic form of contraception called Trifeme.
The PMDD is spinning out of control. I'm currently going through it. It's only for a week and a bit but it's horrible.
I've also heard of women with PMDD taking anti-anxiety meds only during part of the menstrual cycle, to control the PMDD symptoms. You could also try some diet changes and supplements to help your mind be less effected by your cycling hormones....
This site has some information:
http://www.womentowomen.com/menstruation/understandingpmsandpmdd.aspx
They are trying to sell something, but they do list some supplements you could probably find for cheaper at a health food store......
I always try the natural stuff out first...I've been on and off meds since I was a teenager for my bipolar thing....it's amazing how I've figured out how my bipolar disorder responds to increasing and decreasing day length.....and how a little lightbox can completely prevent a depression in the fall.....mania is a bit harder to control....
I really hate taking psych meds, but sometimes I need to.....
Thanks for the link. I checked the pms symptoms list, because they say you need at least 10 to qualify for a diagnosis. I have 18, plus 3 or 4 others I may have. Do you know what hives are? Is that a rash? I have a rash on my neck, and last week I had one on my chest.
And I have all core symptoms of PMDD
It took some convincing for my mum to see how bad it was. A meltdown + crying fit seemed to work well. I hated it to come to that, but it could have been much worse.
This is really interesting. During this time I feel really useless because I don't work nor think that I could. I think about my ex and my family not caring about my autism.
Is my body telling me to come forward about these things?
Sorry for going slightly off topic but I found that really interesting.
I'm also going to have to start eating healthier again. I used to cut out so much to stop period pain, but once I started taking pills to stop period pain I've been a bit liberal in my diet.
