I hate going to the barber!
Apparently... there's a whole 'nother thread going for women and hairdressers right now...

Congrats on your new sartorial splendour!
What do I do?
toasterboy,
make it known to the barber what asd needs have got,and ask for an appointment when there's no one else there, when all electric [=noisy] equipment is turned off, etc.
or get a barber that comes to the home or someone that know to do it.
Am have hair very short and used to go to a hair dressers in urmston that was so accomodating to self and own needs [being in an area with a huge autie and LDer community],but then they closed down.
Then started nicking razors to try and shave head as cannot cope with the electric type, but having no feeling of pain was shaving off flesh more than hair [and looked like mum with several bald patches].
Am now have it cut with proffessional hair scissors every few weeks by own NAS support staff at home, and would recommend
an in-the-home cut out of all options, because are able to control where its done.
if it's a short cut that like to have,do not have to bother with electric shavers-a good pair of hair scissors and someone who is good at cutting hair do just as well.

My head was always constantaly itching. I was constaltaly being checked for headlice but I only got it once when their was an outbreak at the school. I think I may have even had some excema because their were little bumps in my hair that would hurt if a brush touched them. I was constantaly cutting my hair off with anthing I could find because I could stratch better if there wasn't any hair in the way. I had bald spots everywhere and my mom was constantaly having to take me to get it cut. I suppose if more was known about Asperger's and autism as there is now, people would be more understanding. The only way they could hide the bald spots was to cut it super short. I was CONSTANTALY being mistaken for a boy even if I had pink clothes on. When I screamed at people that I was a girl, they got all embarassed and felt horrible. I guess maybe they thought I was on chemo. I was always given a "bob" and it made me look stupid. Today as an adult, I am free to keep it as long as I want. It was once down to my butt. I can't stand the feel of my hair in my face and need the pressure of it in a pony tail in a spefic place. I was too uncordniated to put it up myself so my mom had to do it for me. It was so long it was a hassle for her too and when I tried to put it up at first, I giving me split ends and making my hair uneven. I had to have it cut super short so it could grow out properly. It was so easy to take care of but I looked SO awful. It's grown back and looks good now. I will NEVER get my hair cut again.
