Ever been accused of calling yourself an aspie to be trendy?

Whenever I've seen Aspergers denial, it's always seemed to come down to the denier thinking that the presumed Aspie is going to try to use the diagnosis as an excuse for past or future behavior.
As a result of going into denial, I gave up middle-rate DLA and suffered countless personal humiliations in the name of trying to make a contribution to a society that couldn't care less about me. Don't talk to me about excuses.
I think you misunderstood me, I wasn't talking about Aspies being in denial about their diagnosis but rather when non-Aspies try to deny that the person in question actually has AS or otherwise tries to minimize or downplay the condition. As I said, I've seen this second hand on a number of occasions, and I am of the opinion that the motivation for the non-AS people who do this usually comes down to a suspicion that the diagnosis is going to be used to demand special treatment of some sort, and that a good way to reduce the likelihood of this happening is to frame the diagnosis in personal awareness terms. Hope that helps clear things up.

Notwhithstanding the anxiety and lack of social relationships, I think Asperger's (for me) is quite cool.
It has been the foundation of my business and my livelyhood and will continue to be a blessing to me financially.
Most people I mention AS to, have never heard of AS, so I move quickly to 'Autism' which for some reason they don't seem to find expecially trendy
