Does she know that he may be able to get the money for the trip with help from people on WP, or does she think he is very unlikely to be able to find enough money? ie. if she isn't telling the truth, if the "scam" in the whole situation is the highly sympathetic attention she gets from seanmw, rather than anything financial, is she feeling fairly confident that he won't be able to pay for a flight and therefore that her story won't be blown by him getting there?
.

I have to agree these are good questions that need to be addressed.

Sean, I'm sorry to hear about your GF. Unfortunately, I don't have an internet account so I can't contribute. It may be helpful if you posted how much the plane ticket costs though.

Washington & Indiana. I thought it'd said something about it already somewhere

The girlfriend at least knows that i am trying to get money to go see her, yes.
she hasn't seemed at all reluctant though. Hasn't tried to put me off in any way either.

& i told her i thought i would prolly be able to get enough money, yes. So i doubt she's just scamming for sympathy besides the fact that if she's scamming for sympathy, that'd be ridiculous 'cause it'd mean her mom is in on it too, 'cause i've also talked to her mom once or twice when Adrienne had passed out when we were on the phone. & also because it's the kind of thing that would eventually be found out in any case. So doing that wouldn't make much sense...

it is a blasted nuisance dealing with paypal.

i forgot my password and went through a rigmarole, but anyway, i finally got into my account (that i have not used in a few years), and i have to add funds to it. it says that the funds will then be available within 3-7 days for me to then send. who do i send it to anyway? where are the details posted?
there is an option that says "send money immediately", and it shows the following screen.

[img][800:565]http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/6530/ppal.jpg[/img]

do you have an email address that is linked to paypal or something. i do not understand how it works.
i can not see how the money will get into your bank account from an email address unless you have set it up to link it with your account.

anyway, the way you describe her, it seems that she is deteriorating rather rapidly so you should go there as fast as possible and maybe let your mother work out the stuff concerning your sister. they will both be alive when you get back. i would like to get money to you straight away and i will give you the rest of what you need for the ticket.

tell me where i can see the details of how to get you the money please?
and i am not doing this for thanks. i am not a very nice person anyway, but this kind of thing happened to me once and it may stay with you for the rest of your life if you do not go to be with her and she dies.

i believe the email i used for paypal is [email protected]
& i'm not really entirely sure how paypal works either. I just recently had mine set up.
maybe it sends some kind of voucher for the money to my email or something :? ?
or maybe it's just a way around the button for individuals who both have paypal accounts. idk

I don't really understand why you guys didn't do this via pms. I think if you are all close friends why aren't you discussing this in pms. Why not a pm thread, friends of friends of friends. You can't set up paypal sites and stuff like that without at least thinking of doing it legal. People in America get a tax exemption for contributions to legal charities and you cannot collect money like this without setting up something legal. The only thing that makes it suspicious is the lack of information. If you guys are in love for 8 months why don't you know 'exactly' how much is a plane ticket. The expenses and extra contributions to this girl's recovery leave it so open ended that whatever amount is received it is assumed it will go to the right place. I read your other website and there isn't any more information in that site than there is here, and again open ended, whatever you get is great. This is just not a good place to do this considering we are people who get tricked all the time. I don't trust anyone because I always think everyone is telling the truth, which isn't the case.
I just put an estimate on the plane ticket cost because plane ticket costs can fluctuate by varying degrees from what i hear. Like depending on how soon before the flight you book it, time of the year, whether or not it's a seat that i'm getting for a deal or not because maybe somebody decided they couldn't make it at the last minute.

true, i could just schedule one right now for some future date and get an exact cost estimate, but i wouldn't know yet if i would even be able to make it on that day because as of yet, i'm still unsure exactly when the money might reach here.

**********************************************

Okay, so the last time i checked was during the spring a month or so ago for example, and the prices were around $250-300
so most of this time since i know nothing about seasonal airfare costs, i'd assumed something similar and have been putting the estimate at around $300, just to be on the safe side.

but i just checked it now, and i just 'cause it's the summer, the lowest price i saw was like $555
http://travel.travelocity.com/flights/A ... 4486212010
i didn't know they would change that much for the summer.... this is kind of discouraging...

UPDATE:
Would've replied to these sooner, but i had to sleep. I'd been up for 2 straight days working on all this stuff and kinda burned myself out.
So i got a current plane ticket cost posted up (sorta more than i thought it would be since the last time i checked prices was a few months ago, i didn't know they would go up that much  ). Looking at conservatively about $555 round-trip.
& got the site up, it's in my signature. It's still not really finished, i'm still working on it, but it's there. At the very least i got most of the content on the home page filled in, a paypal button on the donation page (though i think it aid something about having to wait a week before it'll work), and some important dates on the calendar page before i fell asleep. I'll try to get more on there today and refine a few things, but it might be a bit slow 'cause making nice websites from scratch and a few generic templates is pretty new to me.

ANOTHER UPDATE:

by the way, she's feeling a bit better today, she sounded worse last night because she was really tired apparently. But her head still hurts pretty bad, and she's having some chest pains.
& also i was pretty sleep-deprived last night, emotional, and stressed.
So i may have overreacted to it somewhat...

Also apparently her mom has a boyfriend (news to me. Apparently her mom & him have been dating only a month longer than me & Adrienne) who's been helping out somewhat financially with the medical. But she also told me the bill was roughly around 2 to 4 thousand dollars. Still probably not cheap to pull up on the short notice that they did, and they may likely be hurting from it. & should it all fall through and the treatments prove ineffective, and as much as i don't want to think about the possibility  , they may end up having to pay for a funeral aside from it....So while medical expenses are not quite as dire as first thought. donations towards her family after travel expenses are met for support are still very welcome if you feel so inclined...

Sean, the website is looking good!
-------------------------------------------------------------
PayPal is not allowing me to donate you money while using my BlackBerry. I don't have a PayPal account and I cannot use my BlackBerry to create one.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I'll have to try to go to the library to use the computer and try to create one so that I can send in a donation.
-------------------------------------------------------------
I'm not certain how much I can send but I will let you know as soon as I find out.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Please keep in mind that I am disabled and something is wrong with my right knee, it's swollen and painful. So I have mobility issues at the moment.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Do you have a P.O. Box address that you can display on the website that can be used as an alternative way to receive donations?
-------------------------------------------------------------
You might think about getting one as it would be easier for some of us to send you donations by mail than it is to use PayPal.
-------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't have a P.O. Box address, maybe you could ask a pastor at your church if they have a P.O. Box address that can be used to receive donations for your trip to Indiana, living expense while there and Adrienne's medical expenses.
-------------------------------------------------------------
He might be able to get the congregation to raise funds for you and Adrienne as well.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Have you ask Adrienne, to ask her physician for the verification of her diagnosis letter to post on the fundraising website?
-------------------------------------------------------------
I believe things would start happening a lot faster with that posted so that people can indeed verify that she is infact seriously ill.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Her local press there in Indiana might be willing to do a story about her and her medical condition and that would provide some credibility as well.
-------------------------------------------------------------
This is something that needs to be done to dispel any fears people might have about this being a scam. It all just needs to be legitimatized.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Love Your Friend, Taupey

Yeah, that's a pretty good idea. Is it free to get one? if not, how much are they, do you know? Mailing would be much less complicated in some cases. At least for U.S. residents anyways who are able to send american currency or checks. I'm not sure if checks from other countries would be accepted at my local bank or not :? . Anything having to do with the transference of foreign currency in the case of some of the international donors so far might be easier online.

actually, i don't really have a regular church that i attend  . My family's attendance has always been rather haphazard. My only regular religious outlet would prolly be the prayers i send up.

No P. O. Boxes aren't free but they are not expensive either. Just contact your nearest postal station and ask them.

I believe there are many people who do the same thing. Why don't you call some churches and ask to speak with the pastors/ministers. You can explain your situation and ask if he can help in anyway.

It would probably help out a great deal if the local press in her area would do a story on her and the serious nature of her illness. No-doubt that would raise awareness and donations both.
