I really dont know what to do about this but it explains alot as to why I avoid conversation. Because it will take me a month after a person says something to come up with an actual reply. This really sucks in difficult situations involving conflict or angry people. I feel like I'm stupidfied in situation likes this. This wont be good if I actually do get a job.

Why is it so easy for my friend who also has AS to come with wity snarky replies to everything while I'm stuck being incredibly stupid and incapable of making a joke that people will actually laugh at?

Because you're different people.

I can related to what you're saying.

I think that might also have some something to do with why I talk to myself; I'm constantly preparing conversations and speeches I might have in the future.

My mind works that way, as well. I still don't wish for a cure.

People with AS frequently have various processing disorders. Your friend may not have a very severe one, or may not have one that greatly impacts their ability to be witty in social situations, or maybe your friend has just made an effort to improve their social skills.

Some people are just witty naturally. Most of the men in my family are quite witty.

Who want to be snarky? My snarkiness usually gets me a slap in the chops.

Yes, I know what you mean and what the other posters are describing. The funny thing is that I think very quickly, once I get set up, but it takes me a long time to get set up. That causes me problems in conversations when unexpected topics come up, and I'm expected to make a reply right away. If I just have a little time to get my memory working, I'm fine.

what if a person could give themselves a genius IQ, would that in itself be a sufficient bandaid for what ails one?
what if a person could give themselves the EQ of the most sanguine person on earth? would that be enough of a fix?
what if one could magically cure all of one's various impairments while still keeping all of one's memories up to the present? would that fix enough of one's problems to proceed successfully in one's life? if you ditched all the unfortunate traits, memories and experiences, would you still be you, or somebody else you've never known? just some jejune thoughts.

I find that when I'm on amphetamines although my thinking becomes confined to a little box, my verbal communication abilities increase 1000 fold. The words just come to me. I prefer being able to think clearly than talk clearly though.

I am very slow at thinking. When I was being bullied over the phone, I just stood there not retaliating, and just throwing in little protests like, ''oh shut up!'' and so on. I never found a really good thing to say, to get them to not know what to say back. They won.

Yet, when I lie to somebody, I am excellent. I can think of a lie within 1-2 seconds, and can keep a very straight face too, without no odd tone of voice or anything like that. Strange, eh?

I do the same thing!! I thought I was just a bit strange! Especially when you are walking around yapping to yourself and someone walks in and catches you doing it. They then ask who you are talking to and when you reply 'myself' they seem to reply by accusing you of being a bit mental. I have never thought of myself as being mental because I talk to myself though, just bizarre lol. I am beginning to feel that I am not as bizarre as I thought I was.
