...in the hospital.

I attempted suicide on June 4th, and wound up in the hospital trauma center for a week, and then in the psych ward. No access to cell phones or the Internet.

Still can't drive for another week because of the electroconvulsive treatments (ECTs). I'm in an extended outpatient program that quite honestly I believe is overkill.

I'm slowly getting back to my life where it left off-- most importantly, getting back to work and getting my memoir published.

What led to this suicide attempt was physical and emotional exhaustion. A look at my recent posts will reveal I was dealing with an upsurge in OCPD symptoms. To make matters worse, I was abusing alcohol, Valium, and Klonopin, mixing it with Ambien. I wasn't sleeping at all naturally and my cognitive functions were compromised. I am now on a completely different sleep med regimen.

I just hope i can get back on track

Did you get hit with any legal complications from this attempt?

Criminal charges or pending litigation for medical expenses?

I know that we haven't spoken very much in the past, but I am very glad to hear that you are OK, and working on getting things back to normal

Alcohol and drugs can do a number on your system. I myself was lucky enough to quit drinking several months before I had my emotional breakdown last year, otherwise I don't know what I might have done.

What is OCPD?

I know you said you are slowly getting back to where you were. I hope you get to where you are doing better than you were.

I won't promise I know what to say but I'm glad you told us you're back.

Also ECT is voluntary right? that is one of my biggest fears about trusting a psych ward to help if I really got to the point of needing protection from myself, is that they would force something like that on me.

Depressants can make you even more depressed! Glad you are doing better!

It's not often that I congratulate someone for failing, but - that's great news!

Not that you tried, of course, but that you're still around to let us know what happened. Get well. It'll probably take a while, but . . . it's worth the effort, I think.

Hey, welcome back. Sounds you went through an awful time. Sorry I'm not good at the whole sympathy thing.

Oh and for those people that wondered, OCPD is obsessive compulsive personality disorder. I have traits of OCPD.
And ECT is perfectly legal as long as it is done voluntarily. Anyway, people are still having lobotomies to treat epilepsy in the mosts severest cases.

Oh I am so sorry to hear of your suffering but so glad that you are okay. I'm just so sorry you went through that, so so sorry. Please if you ever feel like doing that again tell someone. Of course I hope you won't ever feel that bad again. It is so so good that you are alive.
