Anders Behring Breivik -Aspie?
i think there is real power in understanding what is reality and what is really going on. because then we can get to the root and start figuring out how to handle it.
The problem is "the truth" is variable, and subject to political and ideological tides. History teaches us what can happen when they get into a panic or a hate or a confusion. Now if they can't actually decide what an Aspie "is", all I'm saying is we had better be careful giving them ideological ammunition to play with. They are not developed enough to be trusted with this stuff an dall those guys claiming humanitarian motives soon show their true colours when an ideologiclally driven witchunt begins because their social position, their own validity and stuff like mortgages rely on them agreeing. I wouldn't trust them in this situation if they are offered a boatload of funding and security of tenure to act as advisors to the security forces. When paranoia meets university minds all kinds of weirdsh*t sharts flying about. That's not even taking into account the media amplification starting wave sof moral panic. A couple of months ago
it was Single mums on benifit destroying the country, no its only 1 in 14 disabled people are unfit enough to be allowed not to woirk, and there are private companies poviding priveliged politicians who have never even lived below th breadline with the stuff they want to hear, so they get paid fo rit. No imgine if the politicians her ewant a down on us for political scapegoats, and thes eadvisors start telling them the stuff they want to here and the politicians friends run the private security firms and the private health care iniatives - we're going to end up getting a damn barcode on our foreheads and working workfare making crap for big profit for another bunch of the politicains friends for workfare. They do not give a chimps as s what the truth is as
long as they can make political and social capital and cash out of it.
They can't evean agree what AS is, so they can shift the definition, broaden if if necessary to include who groups .
This is why I say that I lack empathy, and feel FOR people, but not *with* them. It's not because I think I'm cold-hearted, it's just because I know that I'm not affected by people the way that most people are, and ESPECIALLY the way that people who do things like this are.
i'll repost my example on this..
if you had the opportunity to kill the leader of north korea and free the country, would you do it? lets assume its a simple situation, you kill the leader, you get away without problems and the country is freed and is no longer a nuclear threat.
i bet the answer is yes, you would do it. i certainly would. then we'd have no more problems with north korea.
so if this is the case, morality positive depends on what you're socialized by. and if you're pretty disconnected from society your version of morality positive can become almost anything.
Hmmm?
lol, why would I do this?
I don't know. I guess given the opportunity, if I know that it was the right thing to do and it would cause absolutely no inconvenience to me, I would.
But someone would have to lead me into a situation like this. Doing something about North Korea would never occur to me.
It's not that I'm SO apathetic, that I have no moral compass. But I'm oblivious for the most part.

I very much doubt I'd be capable of killing someone even if it was some "noble" cause. Taking a life is just not in my nature, though I suppose I could be compelled to act to defend my own life when adrenaline takes over. It sounds very simple to talk about killing people from the comfort of your armchair but really the fact is that most people just aren't killers.
This is what I have been trying to say- in Europe they will be down on us , momitoring and all the other crap. That's just the left , the right might decide we are a bunch of freaks as well and they are not nice people.
This is weird to think because I have just been reading through Dorothy Bishop's critque of clinical models of diagnosis and it turns out that there isn't even a standardized system, a "gold standard" of deciding what an Aspie is , which means it's very open to interpretation by clinicians. Now when we get the Aspie panic, like the Muslim panic, or the white proletarian panic , how do you think they will err? It's big business deamonizing a group , especially in a recession.
All this would be kind of funny if it wasn't set against this horrific backgound. What you got to remember is the UK is not as you see it on TV. We got CCTV cameras coming out of civic centre stautues asses and there's security firms monitoring if you sneeze,. Crime hasn't improved , it got worse in the last twenty years despite all the above. But if they want to profile and monitor a generation of kids and us adults they have the means to do so. I do not want to be tagged for being alive.
I hope they don't decide he is an Aspie. I really do.
As much as this is a concern, I'm all for truth. Maybe your correct in how badly leaders would handle this, in a typically stupid fearful and reactionary manner as per usual. But...
Do we need another Brevik, Columbine, Aramoana, Virginia Tech............???????????????
The toll of suffering around the exclusion, demonisation and ostracising of the neurodiverse (aspie or not) is massive
The single mums problem - how many are HFA?
Amy Winehouse -Tragic
Bee Gees
I cant remember them all
Exclusion and isolation and demonisation may in part be due to the Muslim crime problem in Europe......
Until we start treating all people, AS or not, with correct respect and understanding, when we isolate, demonise and ostracise them, they will want to hurt their unfair tormentors.
Many disaffected groups beyond aspies are waiting in the wings for liberty from oppression.
Asking everyone to put their heads in the sand and keep the status quo till we have to deal with another Brevik????
The main problem I can see is HFAers. They just dont know what they are, no one does. They try and try to fit in, it doesnt work. The confusion and despair becomes too much. Until someone comes along and says hey your an aspie thats why...
Aaahh okay then, I'm different. So you guys arnt evil after all, just NT....
Viva la revolution. Bring it on.
Like er how exactly?
Knock on door
"... Hi, we think you might be an HFA."
"Huh? "
"Well have you ever thought you were erm, different, and you were surrounded by, I dunno, sort of bald ape-things and they sort of tolerated you , but they do stupid things ,and if they keep on doing stupid things there won't be a planet pretty soon...you know that kind of stuff, "
"Guess so . Some of them seem OK though." Glances around to make sure no one else is in earshot . "Do you mind if I ask you a question ?"
"No, fire away"
"There's this Japanese anime character......"

I agree with you so hard.
The truth is that. people with AS probably have much variance as NTs, and NTs are obviously capable of doing morally reprehensible and disgusting things as well.
But they are the majority.
People don't understand autism. People make judgments about minorities, and label them, in an effort to understand them. Understand how are they are similar to the majority and how they are different. The majority of people want to understand autistics, and compare them to NTs. Ideas like this floating around could very easily become the consensus among NTS.
VERY quickly.
I don't expect a ton of Aspies to care about BAD PR, but that's exactly what this is, and it is dangerous.
[quote="Surfman"]Who will be the brave knight that will slay this dragon?
ooops that sounds a lot like Brevik doesnt it?[/quote
Surfman-
we can make a whole list of guys who have aspie traits- some of them will have massive empathy and do stuff like plan and save meticulously then treck off to Africa and sink a well in a village, maybe on an island , but they never get mentioned in the media- saving 200 lives is not newsworthy.
All I know is the potential spin and all the groups over here who stand to benefit by labelling him an aspie is not going to do us any favors I don't think , in this climate . Unless you can think of any. I'm open to discussion, because i don't for a moment think I've got a monopoply on the truth.
Think of all the tax they can gather from employed aspies
Think of all the welfare they can save
Think of all the problems like bullying that could greatly diminish and/or go away completely
Reduction in deranged neurodiverse on an angry rampage against their oppressors
This is all just the tip of the iceberg......
However, there are much bigger issues below the surface
The clash of the old world with the new
Warlords money and self interest
Gods in heaven, demons in hell, us in the middle of their battles
Think of all the welfare they can save
They'll definitely go for the first two points. No probs.
They rest they'll agree with, until they get the first two.
Do I need to tell you how this goes?
Man they just need to see the human pyramid , the hierarcy for what it is and how most of us are locked into it and how a few ultra high aggressive use ice axes to climb up and down the human mountain to get what they want.
Us in the middle- I didn't sign up for this at birth choice meeting 101.
True, armies throughout history had to develop new and novel ways to induce soldiers to actually kill another human. Once they get past the nerve wracking experience the first time then blood lust and propaganda take over. Many a mass murderer was under the pay of some government or kingdom under the guise of being a soldier.
Paradoxically very normal people can want to kill as unusual circumstances and belief in propoganda may precede the urge to kill. Examples here include Nazi Germany and Rwanda. Many serial killers also carry a belief that they are doing "gods work" in a puritanical ritual. Others have a satanic belief in sacrifice and many simply have an overwhelming desire to convert their violent sexual urges to reality. There are copious numbers of books written on the subject.
Individuals may also follow a path that takes them on a quest to kill for a belief in a greater cause (Timothy McVeigh and Anders BreveiK).
I want to comment on this and say that the type of "empathy" that aspies categorically lack is the practical kind, the ability to easily understand what a persons feelings and motivations are in day to day situations. This is different than a psychopathic lack of empathy (which this guy clearly had). An aspie will, 99% of the time, know that understanding other people's emotions is important, and will make an effort to do so as to avoid confrontation and hurting people's feelings. A psychopath will fail to see why what other people feel is important at all, and thus will not care if they cause immense trauma in other people.
As to the main issue of whether Breivik was an aspie, I have to admit that some of his behavior does seem a bit Asperger-ish. I can tell you from personal experience that WoW seems to attract aspies in general (many were in my guild), most obviously because of the escape from reality it provides, but also because of the repetitive tasks, the spreadsheet number-crunching (there is actually a site devoted to this called elitistjerks.com), etc. Breivik's lack of an ability to "fit in" and obsessive interest also point towards Asperger's.
I do agree with this person though:
Many news sites don’t, but BBC News:
Professor Coid says key to the diagnostics would be whether or not Mr Breivik had any close friendships – such as a girlfriend.
“I would be interested in whether in the past he has had normal close friendships, and whether his mental state has deteriorated since then. If he hasn’t had any, then maybe we are talking about someone who is closer to the Unabomber, who was cut off from society.”
[...]
If we are talking about someone who was cut off socially, “this would indicate a more schizoid personality – an highly functioning individual with a form of autism, and an increasing obsession with right-wing ideology
Dear Prof. Jeremy Coid,
I just read your interview in the BBC News and since then, I worry a lot about myself and can’t stop thinking about it. I hope you as an expert can help me deal with it. I highly suspect, that I also got this so called “asperger syndrome”, a form of autism. I didn’t get a diagnosis yet, but I also spent a lot of time alone, in front of the computer in my life, cut off socially. I am probably sort of a “loner”. Just like this mass-murder Anders Bering Breivik. But there is even more: I am approximately the same age as him, and I also didn’t have a girlfriend yet. Just like him. As a kid, I also watched a lot of documentaries about the Knights Templar. He probably did so, too. I am some highly functioning individual with a form of autism. According to an expert, he also may have. I am in fear of my brain, what if I really got this autistic form? Maybe I go mad, too. Please tell me, how likely do you think it is that I also become a mass-murder?
Thanks a lot,
anton
I see you have done a double-post on this, but what I said there applies:
I really don't know if you are winding him up or if you are entirely serious. Maybe it's just me be I can't tell from the way you've written it.

Thank you.
Sociopaths do FEEL some kind empathy, IMO.
If they didn't, how could they read others and manipulate people so well?
They have it, maybe what THEY don't have is sympathy. They know how people feel, they just don't care.
I'm tired of empathy being such a huge component of what makes someone *good* in most people's eyes.
IMO many people lack empathy. They could be BORN as good or BAD people, though, and I don't that most people aren't born rotten.
It would be extremely easy to spot an autistic sociopath, it'd just be obvious. Not to so with the NT sociopath.
I think many NTs lack empathy as well, but ARE good people at heart, and would never do anything like what people who *may* or may not lack empathy, and also happen to be sociopaths would do. It just isn't as obvious that they lack empathy, because they have better4 social skills, and/or aren't AS lacking in empathy or impaired with TOM as much as some people on the spectrum might be.
IMO, a sociopath just shouldn't be defined as a person who lacks empathy.
