My friend wanted me to post some info about Eva here to just get a general consensus. It DOES sound like she had Asperger's:

She was described by others as painfully shy, stubborn, opinionated, and didn't like performing in front of people. When she did perform, she didn't really communicate much with the audience, although she did get better at this later on. She was also a bit of a loner, preferring to be with her music and art projects and considered her mother her best friend. She also had an important ritual to spend every Sunday with her mother (Aspies love rituals). She wanted desperately to connect with people but wasn't sure how to. She was also described as a very sensitive, naive, and innocent person, and at times, childlike in her view of the world. She also had no guile, which made it hard for her to lie.

She hated wearing dresses, high heels, and makeup and preferred to dress casually when she performed. She also worked in a plant nursery by day because she loved the outdoors and nature. A lot of people with AS love nature because it has a calming effect.

During her middle and high school years, she started to sense that she was different from everyone else. She was picked on a lot because she wasn't interested in sports, flirting, or wearing certain clothes. This made her very anxious and depressed.
She never cared for everything that went along with being famous such as money and the sexual exploitation of women. She wanted to sing simply because she loved it and never cared if she became famous or not.

She dated but hated being in an intimate relationship with the opposite sex and there is a strong possibility she was also asexual. She even once said to her mother that sex ruins everything.

I can relate to a few things about her: connecting with nature, wanting to be with as few people as possible, liking casual attire and the idea that relationships go downhill once sex is involved. I have said that same thing, "sex ruins everything."

when i said "what made her tick, i was referring to how her brain worked. i was aware that what made her sick was cancer. cancer sucks. :( i wonder what she would have become had she lived?

Sorry Auntblabby! - My mistake...

All i know, is that she was a really great songwriter and performer! And i wish i had the chance to hear her "Live" - "Live at Blues Alley" and "Eva by heart" are very frequent visitors in my "good ol' Marantz CD-63SE"...

Best regards

fancy CD machine you got there. i make do with an old dodgy NAD CD5340 [the "CAR" circuit makes for exceptional inner voice clarity] and an old Sony D-50 "Discman" [first cd player i ever had, back in 1984].

Ok, since hardly anyone has responded to this subject, I thought I should. I'm a huge fan of Eva Cassidy and I'm pretty convinced she did indeed have Aspergers.

Here's some more info on her:

More on her, this one mentions how she was most likely asexual.

I have no idea who she is. Asexuality aparently is quite common in AS although not as many people avidly flaunt it as I do.

WHAT? How can people not know who she is...just go to youtube and find a video of her singing 'Over the Rainbow' and you'll see how incredible she was.

I personaly don't know about a lot of people. I wouldn't reconise the cast of Jersey Shore if they were on my doorstep.

A lot of those either sound fairly normal (i.e. the Sunday thing, dislike of formal clothing) or are symptoms of other disorders.

True but lots of Aspergirls don't like to wear formal clothes due to sensory issues and dress in a very simple way, which Eva did. Also, I read somewhere rituals helped her cope with certain things. Keep in mind that AS is very different in girls than it is in boys.

Both of those things are common in NTs as well. Nobody finds formal clothes comfortable. As for the rituals, rituals are a universal part of humanity. Holidays, the Superbowl, and Sunday dinner are all rituals. And how about a little thing called religion?

Congratulations, you've just diagnosed the entire f*****g human race with Asperger's.
