Pretty much, yeah. The lack of oxygen would cause you to pass out, and you would suffocate to death while unconscious.

If "Dave" holds his breath like this he's done. It's possible it could be done if he exhaled. You might lose your eardrums. One thing to keep in mind is they don't pressurise things to an atmosphere. Space suits, etc. are around 4 pounds per square inch vs. 14.7psi for sea level.

This could be possible. Let's write Myth Busters about Dave Bowman: Do you think Dave could survive? :lol:

The temperature is deadly cold, but this idea of a fast thermal transfer is deceptive because there isn't an atmosphere/medium to quickly wick or draw the heat away from you. Like a vacuum in a thermos, you can't feel the soup or coffee "heat" if you touch the lining.

A thought on "boiling blood."

I have a vacuum pump that is rated at 50 microns. I have converted a canning jar that I've experimented with, to use on deep "vacuums."

For example: You can put an ice cube in this jar and it will immediately boil into a gas or sublimate. Of course water boils rigorously like a pot of water on a stove. I used to do this with our girls to watch, as an educational tool, the effect was such, that they were hesitant to touch this jar, due to the conditioning of "boiling" = heat.
When you lower the atmospheric pressure, there is lowering of the boiling temperature of water. We know it boils at 212* @ sea level . It boils @
78* at about a half pound per square inch or 25,000 microns of vacuum. I've pulled 100 microns and water will boil @ -38, here.

Technically, I think you are contained enough that your blood wouldn't boil. I've put a ziplock bag of water in this vacuum chamber and nothing. Though, there would be a quick dehydration of the eyes and mucous membranes. I don't think your bowels would be problem or "lose your intestines," because we are talking about a 4 psi pressure differential, not an earth atmosphere. Your farts are only about in this range.
