I think we are talking about perfectionism. And I look at it as a good thing.

People who know me would be surprised to learn I'm a perfectionist, but in my own mind I am. I used to do everything myself because other people would screw things up--and, I'd be afraid to complain about it--so if things went wrong any complaints could be kept in house, so as to speak. Also, I had the excuse that I had too much to do to do everything well.

I'm now much more willng to let people do things for me in their own inadequate way and graciously accept that they've done their best. I've learned to complain, when called for, without going overboard or feeling frightened. But I am never, never satisfied.
