It depends. I don't like having to talk to people I don't know or call businesses. Right now, I have a rather expensive item with a lifetime warranty that never worked properly, yet I have been putting off calling the company for over 6 months due to my anxiety over the call. If I could go there in person though, it would have already been taken care of. However, if my best friend calls me, we can end up talking for 2-3 hours with no problem.

I absolutely hate phone calls and prefer physical talk if I have to do it.

I usually don't like making them. Sometimes I write down what I'm going to say on a piece of paper as a script. I don't answer the home phone, only my cell phone. I can't stand background noise either, if my phone is ringing, I'm out and there is too much noise around me I usually don't answer my phone.

I'm funny about calling people. I just get nervous calling people and I don't know why; however, I try my best to avoid calling people on the phone or video chat, unless I'm in a mood of pranking people; which, has only happened twice. It took my NT friends a good while to understand this quirk of mine, but I'm ok with texting :D

I always feel like I'm bothering people when I call them, so I very rarely ever do. And I get flustered receiving a call, too. I sweat a lot if I talk more than a minute. I am also afraid of texting people too often because that might also bother them (and I can only text maybe 3 people at a time because some irrational anxiety makes me think the chances of people being bothered goes up with the number of people being texted).

I always end up putting off important phone calls for doctor appointments or making changes to utilities, like if I'm being overcharged. I usually get my husband to make calls for me after I've put it off for a few weeks. I really have to work myself up to make a call and plan downtime afterward.

When my phone rings, the first thing I think is, "Who the f*ck could that be?" The second thing I think is, "This had better be important, dammit!" Seems like a lot of us aspies hate talking on the phone. I don't know why that is. I hate telemarketers. Sometimes I think it's just gonna be bad news or just somebody looking for money.

I can call a select few and feel ok. But 90% of people I call, I get severe anxiety. The worst it when I get an "Unknown Number" calling me on my mobile phone, or a "Private Number" - the inability to know who is on the other end of the phone makes me very anxious. I used to not answer Unknown/Private Numbers, but my mental health team call me from those so I cannot afford to miss those calls any longer.

I know, right? For that matter, I don't understand the whole tweeting and "updating your status" thing...I once heard this radio commercial for an optimized internet browser or somesuch and there was this voice in the background of the commercial of a woman's voice saying, "Lisa is watching TV. Lisa is craving a slice of pizza. etc" and I'm like, "Who CARES about stuff like that?" People seem to text one another about the most trivial things.

I hate hate hate hate phone calls. I only answer calls or make calls when absolutely necessary. I typically don't answer unexpected calls from people I don't know. I think for me part of it is not wanting to get caught in a situation where I don't know how to respond.

I don't mind calling people, but I usually dislike receiving phone calls. They interrupt my routine.

The first time I ever actually called a girl (who I had known for two years too!) I was so nervous I let out a sigh rougly every minute or so.
I have never gotten comfortable with calling other people. I just grit my teeth & do it now, though.
Getting calls? ctually kind of ambivalent on these. I really dislike phone noises in general. And I absolutely DESPISE cell phones & people who walk around all day talking in them.( I hope they know how easy it is for others to listen in, including various intelligence agencies. You might as well post these in a public forum!)

Sincerely,
Matthew

If I need to contact someone I normally try to email them instead. If they ask to talk on the phone I'd only do so if I really had to.
Every time I need to make a phone call my heart races and I go over what I need to say in my head several times. I have trouble with ending a conversation and I often find, even when talking to relatives, that it's really hard to find of things to say. I say "...yeah" and laugh a lot. It always amazes me how some people can talk and talk and talk and there's never a gap of silence.
I did some journalism work experience once and I was asked to make calls and I HATED having to make them in a room full of people. I hate people hearing me making a call. I'd suck at a job that involved lots of communication with random people.

I don't hate phones but I certainly don't like them. I do hate their ringing and I never answer the phone. If I could I'd live phone free.

I absolutely hate having to make phone calls, especially where my account gets locked and I am now forced to call the rep. I am very frustrated when I do so, and I have a hard time keeping that frustration down. Nevertheless, working in a call center is OK, though not the best; I guess it's tolerable because you follow a script.
