I really want a weighted blanket BUT

I have no dx and I dont feel like telling my mom about my suspicions. I love the sensation of weight though I love putting pillows on myself on the couch and letting my LITTLE little siblings sit on me... my lil brother weighs 47 pounds and sometimes hell come sleep in my bed with me and i love it when he sleeps on top of me.
So I REALLY want a weighted blanket. No dx. Suggestions?

You can say you like the sensation of weight/pressure and you've found these blankets. You don't need to mention autism.

Just tell your mother exactly what you told us. I don't know your mother, but I highly suspect that she loves you and wants what is best for you. She probably realizes you like weight, and just isn't aware that a weighted blanket exists.

Lots of people like them because they're just comfortable to sleep under. In fact, if I remember correctly, quite a few NTs report that they enjoy weighted blankets too.

They're not just for Autism. They can be used for things like ADHD or something as "simple" as Restless leg syndrome. You're apparently not supposed to have them on long, though. Maybe that depends on what it's for or what the weight of it is.

I have an electric blanket that I don't keep plugged in during the summer months, but it's got a good weight to it, and when I need that extra weight I pull it out and use it without the heated part, what about just finding a heavy blanket if your Mum says no or you're afraid to ask?

My brother had to sit on me too though he is older than me and I was laying under a matrace and he would be on top of it or just in a chair sitting on top of me.
I would like a weight-blanket as well but have no money to buy a blanket.
I agree if you do not want to tell about a connection to autism to tell that you like the sensation.

you can get a perscription for a weighted blanket? i spent over $200 on mine...

Some insurance companies are starting to cover them for some diagnoses.

My doctor kept not putting in the request to my insurance so I made mine.

What filling did you use?

My doctor was taking care of it for me. All I know is that some companies are starting to honor it. It's still in the very early stages.

It never actually went through. I might try again, in order to get a weighted vest, maybe this time with my OT instead of my primary care. My primary care doctor kept not being exactly sure how to do what she needed to do.

I didn't know they made those. It sounds really comfortable. I love the sensation of having multiple blankets over me in the winter.

I just told my family id heard about weighted blankets which provide deep pressure, releasing seratonin and dopamine and thought they sound great so had ordered a box of polypellets to make one. They thought it was odd but got their head around it. They don't know I'm dx'ed.

Yeah, I don't think you need a dx in order to get a weighted blanket, either...since even NT people seem to also like them and use them, I think Weighted Blankets have become one of those things that dx's don't really enter into anymore.

I got mine from here. It's a bit on the small side but it was well worth the money, and one of the cheapest sites you'll find. Prices doesn't match quality, the quality is way better.
