Okay.You know how Hitler ordered the Nazis to round up the Jews in World War 2 and send them off to death camps?Well,from what I've been reading there's people who say that Aspie's should die,and in some places the names of Aspie's and HFA's (Hitler rounded up Gypsies too).It seems like society hates us.So what if some guy who hated us,decides to round us up and send us off to camps or something?Will something like this really happen?I was just wondering if this will ever happen or something like it.What do you all think?

Hmm...I don't think so. There are people who think having a cure for autism would be the same thing, but a Holocaust for people with AS is just a little ridiculous.

No, society doesn't hate us, it just doesn't understand us. Each of us is responsible to make a societ of NTs understand us.

So, no worries. A Holocaust for Aspies isn't going to happen.

Yeah, the russians disrupted it to move the base of operations for mass death about a thousand miles further east. Lots of purge deaths were handicapped persons as well.

I think that barring some miracle, our numbers will be drastically reduced in a couple of generations by abortion, once they know what genes are common to most of us.

That is the agenda of groups like CAN and NAAR. Make no mistake about it.

West Virginia now has a mandated registry. If you are a West Virgina resident who gets diagnosed outside the state, or go to a doctor in West Virgina for a diagnosis even if you aren't a resident, the person who diagnoses you must report that to the registry. Right now, they are using "encoding" so that names/addresses don't explicitly show up in the registry, but as anybody who has hacked on a Unix system knows, such systems don't prevent you from finding out if someone is on the registry.

Right now, I'm of two minds about this. One, that this is shades of Nazi Germany. They also started with "just a registry, that's all".

The other being that they just might find out that there's a heckuva lot more of us out there than they ever though possible. And that most of us are just fine other than problems with discrimination. That might diffuse a lot of the CAN and NAAR hysteria.

I don't really mind being removed from the gene pool. I never wanted to be in it in the first place. If NTs want a world without us in it, let them have it!

I'm not really sure where I stand about the registration issue. Indeed, that is what the Nazis did in the beginning. Have you ever thought that they might possibly deeping track of the amount of people who are diagnosed for statistics and research?

I'm not trying to say that you are wrong. I don't even totally disagree with you. There might actually be a perfectly good reason they register those diagnosed.

And when genetic enginering becomes mainstream, society as a whole will become stagnant since everyone will all have the genes that will allow them to become athletes, actors, models, politicians, engineres, ETC, at least for those children where the scientists don't screw up.

The census buearu will be able to subdivided the US population up into a dozen or so groups based upon what kind of genes they have!

And speaking of NAAR, didn't one of our former members go protest a NAAR event last fall?

It wouldn't happen. The main reason Hitler rose to power, was because of the lack of communication during that time. Had it happened today, instantly you'd see all the news channels labeling him a Aryan nutjob, and trying to jail him or send him to a mental institution.

So I doubt it could happen again. There's constant awareness of what is happening around the world, at all times. It's a much different society we live in today, than when Hitler was in power.

I was wondering if you've seen the film Gattaca, Scoots. It's a film about the exact concept your thinking of. Genetically designed children. The ending is a real surprise, so I won't give it away. I'll just say you wouldn't expect it. If you haven't seen it, I think you should. It's just a really fascinating film. It also has Jude Law in it, but that probaly is a sidenote unless you're attracted to men with a British accent. Heh.

I just remembered, I belive this is in the deleted scenes somewhere, but I forgot what deleted scene it was. They did a very moving tribute, to people who were born "disabled", like with physical issues you wouldn't be aware of. The concept, was all the people who wouldn't have been born if they were designed genetically perfect.

At the end they say, "and you" as one of the people who could've possibly not exisisted had there been the ability to genetically design babies before they were born. It really is something that will make you feel like, ":cry: That was so...beautiful!" So I would suggest, you have Kleenex nearby before you watch it.

I remember seeing previews for that movie. A quick check of my mental video clip vault dates those previews I saw to around september 1997, a look on IMDB shows a release date of 10/24/97 so my memory was not far off.

I also remember discussing the film with at school with a friend, at the time I was thinking "Hmmmmm, geneticly enginered kids. I bet when this happens the military tries to grab this technology and use it to create superhuman combat warriors" to which I was met with an enthusiastic acknowledgment.

But being serious here, the idea of genetic screening and enginerring scares the crap out of me.

I once read a book written by an Irishman that was a story about an Autistic boy in Nazi Germany which was very interesting. I sent for it through the library again because I don't remember it all that well.

What I remember most about the book is that the boy was labeled by the Nazis as "mentally retarded," placed in an institution for awhile, and was later sent to be gassed, which he was. The only other things I recall about the boy was that he always seemed to be counting things and that he also broke a statue of Mary in a church.
