As a person who is new to Asperger since being diagnosed last week, I was wondering, which society or group is best for staying informed about it. I want to speed up my progress on seeing what is best and what I should avoid. Thanks.

I don't know... i don't know how many societies there are. That reminds me of kappa beta theta something for some reason.

This site is the best i thing. There's the current events news section and other sections.
Sometimes when i need to see if info is on here i google wrongplanet and _____ and it will pull it up for me if the info is already here and it usually is a post here.

You can always help update too =)

Self researching is what works best for me. If there is something i find interesting i research it online.

Avoid anything related to Autism Speaks.

I once tried to start an apathy group but no one seemed interested.

Depends on how severe you are. If you are severe, probably the U.S. Some countries might treat you worse or lock you up.

If you are mild, almost anywhere BUT the U.S. You'll just be called an introvert and viciously discriminated against accordingly.

Some of the societies that would be the worst for severe autism (China, for example) are among the best for mild autism.

Lots of NT's over there would probably be diagnosed with Asperger's over here just because of differing cultural expectations. I actually enjoyed better treatment than most other foreigners in China, in part, because my condition made me a better fit for the culture. My depression and anxiety disorders disappeared for over a year because I no longer had to suffer discrimination.

And, as I stated, the reverse is true also.

I've heard good things about the nordic countries and Asperger's. Those countries are more introverted and more accepting of differences generally than most other countries. Finally, a few people here, my supervisor at work, and one of my friends have made a plug for Canada, specifically, Toronto and Vancouver.

One with military uniforms, tanks and armbands. But Wrongplanet is close enough.
