I have looked everywhere...

I need to find men's pants with a snap closure because my son does not have the fine motor skills to do the button and I am tired of him wearing nothing but sweat pants. He would like to have the option as well, but won't wear button pants for fear that he will not be able to button/unbutton them while he is at school.

Has anyone found any decent men's pants that have a snap-front closure?

It is really frustrating as clearly he cannot be the only man/boy out there with fine motor issues. The kid has been in sweats since he was 6 or 7 because that was when I could no longer find him snap pants.

I think if you buy regular pants and bring them to a seamstress or whatever the politically correct term for a gender-neutral sewer is, he/she could probably replace the button with a snap. I think it might cost about $10-15, maybe $20. And if you don't need to buy a very specific brand/type of pants, you can buy them much cheaper since cheap button pants are everywhere, and with the added $10-20 they would still be pretty inexpensive. If you buy a few pairs at once, the seamstress might charge you less to do many at once.

Tailor-made pants or those cargo loungepants that are trendy in the USA.

you can make them yourself pretty easily, you can get the tool that puts the snaps in at most craft stores for around 20$ and it comes with snaps
with a little work you can customize any pants to your needs

I agree that having them tailored would probably work best.

You could also have him try on some regular button pants that are a size or two too big so that he can just pull them on and off without having to unbutton them. I struggled a lot with buttons and zippers when I was younger and still do to a certain extent. To this day if I can't get a pair of pants on without unbuttoning and unzipping them I consider them too small. I have also seen some men's pants and jeans that have a bit of elastic on the sides or back, so maybe some of those would work without having to go up a size.

Depending on where you live and what type of pants you're looking for, you might be able to find jeans with a snap on them.

And, if he can't do a button, is it possible he could do one of those metal "slide the tongue thru the opening" fasteners?

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

The Sears and JCPenney catalogs used to offer clothes for people with difficulties, but given those stores' financial struggles that may no longer be a reality. I replaced the blown-out zipper on a leather jacket with a snap kit, I believe the whole thing was less than $10

It always helps to read something like this so i do not feel like such a misfit,
because i have the same motor skills problem. All of my pants and my belt
are done in velcro. I actually have trouble with snaps too.

EzraS, my son is your age (well, he's 12), so I am sure you can understand the problems this poses. He is just to the point that he can tie his shoes and that was with a lot of work. He has ADHD and NLD, not ASD, but the combination leaves him with many of the same issues. You may be a "misfit" when compared to many of your peers that you know IRL, but there are plenty of people out there who are just like you. And among those people, you fit right in. :)

This is my first post on this website. My son is 18 with Aspergers. I've come here before with him to look up information and love the site. I was doing a google search for pants with a snap closure and found this thread and wanted to reply.

I personally wear a brand of pants called Kuhl - they are the most comfortable pants I have ever worn and they have a very easy snap closure. My son has the same issue, can't work the standard buttons. I've had him try a couple pairs of the Kuhl pants and although he can get them on with ease, he didn't like the feel of the front pockets. As they have 25 current pant styles, I know there is at least one other option of front pocket style I can try. There is really a style for everyone, with various pockets and lots of different weights and materials.

They are expensive at $60-90 a pair (you can find them on sale for 45 plus) but honestly, they will last at least 3-4 times longer than a normal pair of pants and they are really very cool. They are one of a few types of pants preferred by a lot of Navy SEAL's for example.

A search on Amazon turns up some hits for pants with snap closures. Seems to be especially popular on cargo pants.
