I hate laughter
I hope you won't make any ultimate decisions regarding laughter (or anything else) on the basis of one confusing incident.
I don't know about this particular teacher, but a lot of them have serious personal problems. The number of people needed as teachers certainly exceeds the number of people who sincerely enjoy teaching. Even the really great ones don't know everything, and practical considerations may influence whether they give accurate answers or try to manipulate students into behaving a certain way.
I went through school making people laugh fairly often, both intentionally and accidentally. I only wish that I had known then what I realized later: confidence and a willingness to fail spectacularly will get you farther in life than boring, small-minded scornfulness. Get what you need out of school and have your fun the way you like it. They may laugh at you or they may laugh with you, but they won't ever forget you. You'll probably forget them, though, since your life will have a lot more excitement than theirs.
Gradeschool teachers often use manipulation to modify the behavior of their students. This can include saying things that do not always adhere to the truth.
You probably had a habit of disrupting the class. So she told you that the other kids were "laughing at you, and not with you" to get you to behave. It probably worked. You probably did become more sedate after that.
When I was in third grade another boy discovered that he could use his fingers to turn his upper eyelids inside out. The grossest thing you ever saw. Then he look around at other kids. Girls would scream. I would just look away, and suffer in silence.
The lady teacher apparently had enough of it. She addressed the class by a telling the sad solemn tale of "Jacob", a boy who did the same thing in school years ago. Then one day- Jacob's eyelids just froze. They got permanently stuck that way...for the rest of his life!
"Now they call Jacob 'Jake look up' because his inside out eyelids make him look like his looking upward all of the time". Needless to say he is as popular as quasimodo because he so gross looking. And his whole life since gradeschool has been a tragedy because of it.
We were all moved by the sad story. And that boy stopped doing that.
Then I forgot the whole thing.
Then 20 years later in my twenties for some reason that whole third grade saga drifted back into my mind ( I was bored running a cash register). I had to keep myself from laughing aloud about it because after not thinking about it for 20 years it was now obvious to me that the tale of "Jake Look Up" had to be the biggest cock-and-bull story ever!
Disclaimer: I won't copy the lyrics. I can't read music, anyway, so I can't copy the music.
I like peanut butter, it tastes so good in my mouth. When I eat peanut butter, all my teeth come out.
