I have Asperger's and I have never been able to learn swimming, even with lessons. I can go under for a little bit just to wet my hair so I won't stroke out, but I can't move around while doing so. I've also noticed that I can't move multiple body parts at the same time while dancing (like hips+feet) for example.

I can swim. Although I am scared of deep water, so I rarely swim and if I do I have to be able stand up in the water. Stupid I know lol.

Just learn to tread water. You'll be fine after that.

It's nonsense to suggest that Aspies can't swim!

I could never do either, either. I love the water, I just don't have the coordination to swim properly more than a few feet before getting out of rhythm and thrashing about wildly. Dancing was never anything I even wanted to do, because I know I'd look like a drunk with St Vitus' Dance, bashing into people and breaking things.

I was taught how to swim from a very young and can do it confidently in any water.

That's not true for me at-least, I'm a relatively skilled swimmer. Of course, I could just be an exception.

I can swim quite well but I really don't enjoy the pursuit very much at all.

I swam competitively in high school and have been a lifeguard.

I don't like swimming, I did as a kid so I guess I can sort of swim but I wouldn't bet my life on it.

I was a champion sprint swimmer as a child. It was the one area of my life where dyspraxia did not intrude for me - I hit the water and I was away. Something instinctive just took over. While I was swimming everything else melted away. I was free! Something total took over and for those minutes, my horrible childhood no longer existed nor afflicted me. Until I went home.

From being the kid who was a joke because of my complete lack of athletic ability on ground, I was the one they couldn't catch in the pool. Take that, NTs!!

I no longer swim though my love of water has been a constant comfort all my life.

I love swimming and I sometimes spend hours in the water at a time. But I do have trouble mastering some of the strokes. I am hopeless with the breast stroke. But I'm an expert when it comes to the doggy paddle :D

I can't learn to swim because no one has the patience to deal with my slow learning rate and my defenseless-in-deep-water phobia.

I swim very well and I am more comfortable in the water than I am on land sometimes. I have also taught swim technique.

I know that feeling.

@kraftiekortie I can tread water, I'm still scared of it if I can't stand up. I have NEVER been able to dive, not even off the side of the pool. I envied the people at the swimming baths who'd jump off the top diving board.
