alright this is gonna sound totally bizzare, but sometimes when i listen to music i pretend i'm on somekindof a talkshow and people that ive never met, want to meet me. it only happens when i listen to music though. also moving in a car with the window rolled down i always pretend either a ninja is outside my window cutting up the town as i drive by, or a superhero is freezing things. does anyone else have these things happen to them? is this related to As or something else? movement seems to magnify the fantasy.

When I went to school, I usually imagined some kind of ninja was jumping on the powerlines on the bus....or on the bus now I imagine that a nuclear apocalypse will occur and we all be trapped inside....and with music I usually fantasize about being a rock star....so it isn't too unusual.

When I rode on the bus in elementary school, I used to pretend one of my characters I made up was outside and as if everything was like a video game. Such as the driveways were bottomless pits and the tops of cars were like platforms you had to jump on. And if the bus stopped, the character stopped. It was pretty entertaining for about an hour long bus ride each morning, being first on the bus and all.

I used to pretend play at primary school. I came out looking like a freak when I did it at my second and last primary school, for the last year. I played alone, in imaginary play. (e.g pretending that I'm on a spaceship/battlefield, the people around me don't exist) I didn't realise it wasn't normal, either. I still play with my imagination, but in a different manner. Sometimes I create a fantasy world, when I'm bored, but I generally just come up with "what if scenarios", or create things that aren't there, to escape from reality.

I think I read that pretend games are a part of AS.

It's a problem if you get arrested for practicing medicine without a license.

I think many people with ASD or Asperger's have a fantasy world they retreat into when life gets too hard. I know I do. It's a defense mechanism; an instinct.

And I certainly know when it's time to "come out" of my fantasy mode and return to life in the current world.

Also, it's very fun to go into when you're exceedingly bored ;^) I liked Lightning's bus ride story...awesome use of your imagination.

I'm willing to bet that almost every Aspie has a very good imagination. ;^)

I have pretended all my life. Even as a little girl, I remember being in my bedroom alone, with my music on, dancing in a circle with imaginary friends... because I didn't really have any in real life. And as I got older, fantasy films and actors became my escape. I would pin photos all over my walls and have conversations with them and imagine I was in the film and such things. It seems so silly now, really, but it was my escape. I needed that, and I still need my escape. I listen to music all the time for that now, and the music takes me to another place, and another reality...is this a common thing among those with AS? Is that part of it, this constant need to escape from reality??

I think that's fairly common for us. I listen to Pink Floyd, and imagine an entire video for the music.

I thought I read that Aspies were not into "imaginary play" and had poor fantasy projection...which contradicts the people here...

So what am I to believe....Your reality and experience or the DX Manuel?

One reason I thought I couldnt be aspie is that I use to "pretend" to be Annie Oakley in second grade and used to fantasize what my real planet was like. Most of my escape from "reality" was/is reading. It is like watching a movie for me(but I never imagined myself as a character in the book)

Most of my "pretending" is practice conversations with people I have spoken to and wish I had said things differently,or with guys I wanted to talk to me or conversations I need to practice....going to the DR,talking with my boss.I will spend hours having these conversations in my head.I dont really have a fantasy life anymore.

very good reply here, yes this is what i'm talking about. i know its not real but the alternative to living in reality is just so boring. i guess thats why i have these daydreams
