Finding A Clinician for Adult Diagnosis in Philadelphia

Hey everyone.

I'm looking for a mental health professional in the Philadelphia area who has experience working with Adults with AS.

Anyone got any leads for me?

Seconded, I could use something like that too.

Might be moving back to the Philly area this fall, so I'd be interested in hearing about this as well. There's no one around here for KIDS, let alone adults.

Beyond that, Penn has a program, but it's very expensive, and I only recommend it if you have a reasonable amount of spare income.

I posted a Youtube video on diagnosing ADHD in adults. The pediatrician recommended finding a doctor who treated children normally that was willing to also treat adults. Because doctors that did not treat childhood ADHD knew very little about adult diagnostics or treatment.

So perhaps the same logic applies to AS.

If I'm trying to get a professional diagnosis, what do I need to search for? A psychologist? or what?

You don't necessarily need to find someone with a PhD (psychologist) or MD (psychiatrist) to get a diagnosis. You can be a certified mental health professional and be a nurse or have a masters.

The important thing is that whoever you see for a diagnosis is familiar with AS. Not all clinicians (health professionals) are because it's only been recognized as a distinct condition since 1994, and that's why I'm having difficulty in my search.

I'm fairly sure that seeing someone who would go into psychoanalysis on my anxiety or whatever would be next to useless. Ideally, I could find someone who was an AS expert and has experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. (Check it out on Wikipedia - it seems so much more inviting than other forms of therapy.)

I'll check out that Yahoo group as soon as I have a chance. I'll also post back if I find a professional I like.
