What of the DSM criteria (it's easier to meet)? Technically, I cannot have AS due to #6 in Gillberg's (it didn't stop two psychologists at Attwood's saying that I have AS); I meet the criteria for autistic disorder in the DSM, so that's written down in my folder.

Would you believe that when I asked my family Dr. for a copy of the report and read through it, everything he wrote (and there were about 6 pages), screamed AS!! He did not dispute that AS was possible, but thought that because of my family history there "could" have been other reasons for similar behaviours. He even pointed out a few of the more obvious ones!! Jackass! But still...decided I needed psychotherapy instead! People drive me mad!

Either way, on a positive note...Someone I met while doing my field work for school about 8 years ago (and is now chief environmental health officer of Barbados), has been in touch. I explained some of what has been happening and he offered that his brother has children with Autism and he is a ASD specialist. He lives in the USA, but has "friends" that work with ASD's here in Toronto that they were going to look into for me. As it turns out, this Dr. from the USA will be coming to Toronto for a visit with family and has offered to assess me, free of charge! :D

I spoke to my family Dr. about it and he was pleased to hear I was getting a reassessment and offered his consultation room for us to use, also free of charge!

I will let you know how I get on!
