Definitely. For a while, my teachers all thought I was just being childish and said I would grow out of it. When my 4th grade teacher suspected it was something else, there was much ado about figuring out what it was, culminating in very few steps being taken to compensate. For years after, I was given tutors and study halls that I didn't need, but nobody addressed the real issues. They only addressed the label.
