Videos needed for verifying "Aspie theory of mind"
I would need some short videos demonstrating various stims (should be in an authentic context). I can extract some stims from Heather Kuzmich videos, and probably also some others, but I thought it would be better if unknown people demonstrate them.
The aim is to show that Aspies, but not NTs, can infer the mood of the person stimming. Therefore, it would be a good idea if people also PM me their mood (don't write it in this thread, as it might bias people from WP doing the ratings later).
My personal "theory" is that we're just feeling sympathy as we recognize something in the other individual with an ASD for they're doing what we've done, or something similar.
I know that there is a connection so to speak, as I can watch people with an ASD, especially those that manifest similar to me, and I "feel"...something, perhaps their discomfort. I first noticed this whilst watching a documentary on individuals with disabilities; I felt nothing for the individuals with other disorders, but the one with AS made me feel uncomfortable as I saw him do things I would do in that situation.
This needs to be demonstrated & published in a peer-reviewed journal, which is why I want videos. Autism researchers will not want to understand these issues by themselves, probably mostly because they cannot "connect" and thus will continue to misinterpret stims as meaningless, repetitive behaviors.
Good idea, I don't have video's but wanted to say that. I do hope there's going to be academic interest for this experimet.
Maybe, but it's possible there's something communicated, that it's more then sympathy experienced by the observer. An experiment might gove more insight.
Non-verbal communication works (in part) by internally mimicking signals and this in turn induces a mood matching the mimicked / echoed non-verbal signals in the observer.
