i am an adult and i strongly believe i have asperger's. what are the pros and cons of getting a diagnosis? i don't have health insurance or money to blow, so what kind of doctor should i go to?

i would like to have a diagnosis because i am frustrated with people not believing me when i tell them i have it. i am also interested in participating in research and feel like i need a diagnosis to do so.

any ideas?

there are a number of benefits --- a few are here: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt66457.html

the tricky part is cost. it's not covered.

where do you live?

you'll want to look up local shrinks in the area with an expertise on autism. you can ask around here, or you can find out what local autism groups are in your area and they may be able to recommend some.

Forget doctors.

You need to search out specialists.
