People have suggested that I do drugs and alcohol, so when I find myself in a relaxed environment in the company of other people and don't know how to hide my social awkwardness as well as I'd like to, I sometimes play along and try to give the impression that I am indeed intoxicated. The responses I get from people are usually less negative than usual.

Has anyone tried this before? And if so, what were the results?

I took it a step further and just got drunk...yeah, people did respond to me more positively and that is why I ended up drinking more then I should just to be social.

Before I even knew about AS I blamed it on exhaustion, stress, or just dumb luck.

It's miraculous! When I really am drunk, the Asperger's disappears! :D

But always, it comes back as I sober up. Ah well.

I have feigned intoxication as well, and ppl seem to accept me more, but I think not so much because of my "simulated inebriation" as opposed to their actual inebriation and their inability at that point in time to actually figure out that I'm not as, well, drunk as them. Yeah, just one of those things I often ponder at a social gathering

I'm profoundly autistic and can pass as NT to a degree. Since many autistics may appear present as deaf, I went with it. I also have the advantage of being able to sign.

Other times, I've feigned being foreign. Many times, in certain groups foreigners will be excused when they commit social gaffs. No more pretending though. I'm coming out so to speak and am educating people about autism, Apsergers, etc.

Similar here only with other drugs rather than drink, and in my case I stopped after a few months.

My brother used to go to parties where people would swear he was high, even though he wasn't. (I just got that reaction everywhere, on the other hand. )

I can't say that I have (I've been aloof to social interaction since the end of high school).

Concerning school, I had one person constantly point out that I looked like I was on drugs. For some reason, my blank stare in response just induced more accusations.

Yes,i tryed to get into a rock club to see a band when i was 16 and messed up getting in under age because i had trouble with non verbal communication. The bouncer was going to let me in if i said i was 18.But i missed his face expressions as him saying,he knew my age but was going to let me anyway.I always like being honest so i told him my real age.
Everyone called me stupid and i said i had just drank to much,i had had a few drinks but i would of messed up that one anyway.

I don't do such a thing, because I have nothing to hide. I'm relaxed, no matter what environment I'm in. The other thing is that I'm not supposed to drink with the pills that I take.

Interesting one. No, in never pretended to be drunk. Ive tried to pass of as sober, didnt work :)

Being drunk, i feel as if im in a "bubble", it works fine for me. I dont have to TRY to disconnect all the noise.

Wow I wish I had been more like you. I used to get drunk just to cover up my social akwardness even when there were people around me sober.

I kind of do that, but not intentionally...when I'm around drunk people, I just kind of...start to feel it myself, I guess you could say. I call it "drunk empathy" ;D

Maybe it's because I like to think to myself that the more they drink, the less they'll remember what I did tomorrow.
