if it scares you...you might be in the wrong place.......

I did this ALL the time as a kid. Mostly, I barked and meowed.

Why..?

One time when I was in Boy Scouts, we were going door to door selling tickets to a Scouting Event.

Another scout and I were going down the street in the nearby town together. At one house, there was a rather mean looking and ferocious dog who started to bark at us when we started to open the gate. The dog scared the other scout and he wanted to just skip that house.

So I started barking at the dog. A real ferocious bark that was not at all friendly. The dog in the yard yelped and ran around to the back of the house and stayed there until we had gone.

The other scout was quite impressed with that.

I speak a lot with my cat, and one day she was driving me crazy meowing, so I gave her this long and loud meow... she got really scared, hissed and run away, it took me a while to convince her to come out again and that I meant no harm, never tried that one again.

I also make a good cardinal (bird) imitation, a few months ago I tricked a real one in the countryside, the people I was with were really impressed. I always mimicked birds I heard as a kid without being able to see them in the forest, only by ear, so until I've seen this cardinal bird recently come close and 'sing' back I didn't know that it was the one I was mimicking!

I think the fact that raccoons enjoy socializing wit me and the local coyotes join in my howling speaks for itself.

I did a lot as a kid. I'd growl at other kids when I was annoyed at them.
I still sometimes randomly make animal sounds but much less over the past couple years. Many times I have freaked people out with my goose and cat sounds because they're so realistic.

I've been asked a lot how I do it. The best way I can explain it is that I use my vocal cords, but I inhale instead of exhaling like one normally makes sound. When people try it, they can't seem to do it. I guess I'm just weird.

I did as a child, and I still do.
I can imitate perfectly the sounds of most animals.

One of my favorite things as a kid was to imitate peacocks.

We had quite a flock of peacocks on the farm. Except when nesting, they would spend the nights on top of the water tank and on the windmill.

I'd go outside at night and make a loud peacock yelp as loud as I could. That would start them all off at once.

Sometimes I would do this every few minutes for quite a while.

It was great fun.
