Amanda Baggs IS a hoax and a mockery against Autism

I don't believe everything written on the net ....but this story is too personal and detailed and she's not afraid of naming every party of the story.


....and after I saw that LAME video , I am now sure that the author was not lying after all!

For f***** autism's sake , what is seen in this video is not Autism , nor HFA , nor Asperger , nor LFA and neither LFA with mental retardation! Ok, we all have our weird habits , we flap hands, we walk around in circles... but.... does anyone of you behave like this?? Humming like a movie's ghost and dancing an undead zombie freaky slow dance? Do you know anyone with any type of Autism behaves like this or even close to this?? Personally, I was watching this at 12:00 AM and she scared the s**t out me!

What is seen in this video is either a psychologically disturbed woman doing weird stupid gestures and exaggerated rituals and probably very aware of what she's doing or she's just a fraud.

What needs to be commented here? There's no debate here , the video concludes everything by itself.

It's a musical performance. I'm only a couple of minutes in and I'm loving it, mesmerising.

I've not seen this "Amanda Baggs" in person, but have known a person from highschool make a total flip in personallity, and mental condition. Was partly caused by marijuana, and probably a preexisting condition. If I'd not known this person, I'd probably be in full agreeance, cos something about this does seem off. I actually am good friends with this person's brother, and still am shocked over the change. Quite sad.

I thought the video was kind of beautiful.
It's a short piece, not a documentary. It was, of course, edited.
I believe it is succinct, precise, and descriptive. Like her writing style.

Uh yes, during my clinical placement in a Learning Disability (Mental Retardation/Intellectual Disability) service I met several people with autism (as in about 30+) who had similar satiations, perservations and self-stims that Amanda does.

Doesn't mean she's not a fraud, doesn't mean it's all down to autism, but I have seen this all before over and over again.

For anyone who is at all familiar with John Best Jr. (owner/author of that blog) you'll know that that post isn't even worth commenting on.

I do get very anxious when I am deliberately restricted to doing what I need to do everyday. Moving around a lot with the entire body, mumbling to myself. Getting worked up to a point I will lash out at anyone and everyone

Well, Amanda didn't do that site in a manner that would help autistics. The person in the Video doesn't look like someone that could go to college. If she is an "advocate" she isn't a good one. EVERYONE knows a lot of LFAs need help, and most probably WOULD want it! Advocation should be towards helping them to get help to overcome problems, helping to dispel the belief that all are as they are, and helping to provide for a better environment for ALL! I don't see where amanda really fits there, outside of showing that outside appearances are deceptive. I won't say anything else negative here, as I don't know the situation. There ARE easier ways to get assistance, etc... though.

From watching the video, I have to admit she seems more severe than anything I have ever witnessed. However, autism or not, I do not think she is faking. Why?...because the dogs on the couch did not seem alarmed by her behavior, as if they see it all the time. My aspie son used to hum quite a bit when he was younger...not as much now that he is older. When I am alone and can stim freely, I am quite the hand flapper; especially when I am talking to myself or having an inner dialog. I also must note that I too, did not care for the mercury notation.

I like this video and Amanda Baggs' work. She was in an interveiw with a magazine in Canada called WIRED. And yes, she is Autistic.

What she is doing is speaking out against the misunderstandings of autism -she's advicating for kids like us and like herself how is that bad?

I HOPE that's not true. I really like her writings and such, and think she makes her points quite nicely. Besides, why would she be going through the trouble of trying to get the word out and stop the kind of things happening to other autistics if what that one person wrote about her was true?

But really, some of the comments on that blog were just despicable.

When Dr Gupta did his interview on Amanda, he said at the near end of the episode that many have speculated her as being an autistic phony. You can take that whatever direction you please, but looking on the bright-side, now at least she's happy with a label, and I believe there are many out there with the same rhetoric. I personally believe that the psychology/pharmaceutical industry has it in their best interests to pacify people of these sort with "glistening labeltry", lest no more harm can be commited by them to others (they're drugged and now are special because of a "rare" disorder), and big pharma/psychiatrists make more $$$; it's a win/win situation really.
