My son started has had this fascination with CRUSH soda since the summer time. He saw a bottle while we were out somewhere and it's all he would talk about. My father bought him one as a surprise and he saved the bottle. When he found out they came in other flavors, he was beside himself. He likes to save the empty bottles in the fridge. He even named them He only has 3, since I really try and limit soda's and sweets. Another thing he used to like to collect were those sandwich wrappers from Subway. Do any of you like collecting things?

I collect buttons, but that's fairly common, I hear.

I also collect:

old cookbooks
cat figurines
pretty hats
brightly-colored eyeshadows
ostrich feathers
silk ribbons and scarves
Shoe boxes

i used to collect nailpolish of different colors.

I collected 16 stuffed white tigers, but I had to give most of them away when I moved to Oregon

Well, aside from compulsive plant collecting, and my collection of musical instruments (my interests, of course)....

I have a collection of odd hats::
cowboy hat
railroad conductor's hat
furry Russian hat
wizard hat
French Foreign Legion hat
camouflage fisherman's hat
huge straw hat
ski hat

There are probably some more I am forgetting.

I have no idea why I've collected odd hats. I actually hate wearing hats for very long.
Wait, maybe I do have an idea why...
It probably has to do with the historical-sociological context of most of these hats...

Funny. I was obsessed with Orange Crush as a kid...not to the extent of keeping empty bottles in the fridge and naming them..it just sorta had a mystique to me. Perhaps there was something about the commercial, and the fact that it was somewhat harder to find than Sunkist.

I was thinking of starting a thread about collecting that was gonna be along the lines of "Things you collect without thinking about",,not sure if that's the best wording...

um..My most impressive collection is of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls.
I collect homemade toys that fall into several categories...most particularly vintage homemade toys...but I have a few vintage store bought toys, and my collection is merged with Flakey's collection of stuffed snakes and hand puppets.

I own hundreds of pairs of socks that I will never wear
fonts...lettraset...font books....rubber stamps and sticker fonts
books on how to make stuffed animals
Buttons
Hats
Costumes
fake fur
vintage fabrics
musical instruments
"toy" instruments
old random plastic toys, many of them are old cake decorations.
It goes without saying that we have hundreds of books in the house.
There are lots and lots of other things that I can't think of.

How many of a particular object must one have in order for it to be considered a "collection"?

I could almost say that I collect old chests of drawers

...and even though I don't collect certain things, I have wound up with huge collections of these things in my house by default...like the old broken unplayable piano collection i inherited from my dad.

Collecting seriously runs in my family.

marbles
tree twigs
small stones
matchboxes (as a kid)
pieces of glass
shells
brass objects
tiny china animals.

wine labels - i had a little factory going in the downstaits laundry where i would soak the bottles and dry the labels and then later stick them in a book.

most of the things i gravitate towards to collet are both useless and worthless and i usually collect them purely on the basis of how they look and feel to me.

collect feathers and certain sticks,have got a draw full of them,though is less...collecting and more about... routine.

Cats

My parents collect cats, and a hundred different other things.

'collecting' cats doesnt seem to be that...not ordinary anymore,will always find cat collectors who have got too many cats on those programmes about dirty houses like a life of grime when that used to be on.

I meant 'unusual' cats. Who wants to collect regular ol cats.

I still collect bus schedules (when I can do so without any stares).
