When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

I was put on Ritalin when I was five years old, and it turned me into a zombie. I was high energy, but not hyperactive or inattentive. AS was not a known diagnosis at that time.

My experience with ritalin was very mild..it was a very low dose. My experience with Adderall caused me to have a major nervous breakdown.

Thank goodness the days of Ritalin are long over!

Staying up for 3 days will make you a little crazy. Dont do it.

When my step-cousin was about 8 years old, he was put on ritalin. It completely messed him up & turned him into a total zombie, basically. His parents took him off it within a year, when things started getting really bad. He got better, but he's still not the same & he's 22 years old. That stuff's really dangerous, as well as overly prescribed... especially to teenagers & younger children.

I already answered in "Ritalin Overdose" thread. Ritalin works similar in brain as Meth. It blocks for a while the D2-receptors in your brain. Those receptors are responsive for dopamine, a substance which is curial for your mental well being. They need after an overdose some time to recover. This time is different from person to person. With me it is in the excess of three days with mild effects up to a week. I know others which recover fully within 24 hours.

As I said: Keep a low profile and wait till its over.

Most important: Don't do it again!

And will lead to hallucinations, some can be very frightening, but even seeing colourful pattern jumping on white paper is no real fun.

wow..this post just made me grateful that i never filled the ritalin prescription for my 9 year old. i threw it in the trash instead.

WOW, you sound like my mother! She did the SAME thing! I met a LOT of people that were put on ritalin and seemed to be more like poor robots than thinking humans. I hear some LUCKY people with ritalin, and wonder where my life would have been if she filled that. OTHER times, I remember those people that were UNLUCKY, and am thankful that she did what you did!

I hear you, buddy. I was diagnosed with AD/HD at six before I was officaly diagnosed with AS. I did not want to take anything for it because I felt I did not need it. Everybody kept trying to tell me how much better it would make me feel. I did not feel bad at all. I kept saying I did not want to but was forced to anyway. It gave me this hand tic/toe tick which is still here today and has never gone away. I think I received some brain damage from it.

Just got a prescription for it today. Was on it before, about 10 years ago and all I really remember saying about it was it helped, then they whacked me out into a freaking zombie with the Bipolar meds and I had to stop them all. They don't look favorably on that when BP's do that. Long story but in a nut shell, various labels or DX's can overlap each other. I've got my fingers crossed, if it works the way I hope, this will be a big step forwards.

I'm so damn leery when they give this stuff to kids, any of it, that can't explain what is going on well. It's hard for an adult at times. I mean street drugs are like BAM in your face and this stuff is powerful and not so in your face.
