Aspergers/HFA and Stammering/Stuttering

This is one area that has always fascinated me. When I was younger, I stammered/stuttered quite a bit. As I got older I learned to avoid certain words or to place the words I would stammer/stutter on in the middle of a sentence. (sorta like getting a running start). As I got older, I started to meditate every day and still continue to meditate daily. I very rarely (if at all) stammerstutter anymore. Are there any other people on this site who stammers/stutters or used to?

I do, but I've gotten very good at controlling it. You wouldn't notice this unless I pointed it out to you, but I intentionally pause when I'm speaking every few seconds to avoid stuttering. It's like placing random commas in sentences, or to use a metaphor, slowing down when driving over speedbumps in a parking lot. The stuttering still breaks through, though, particularly when I get excited and try to speak too quickly, or if I start to get frustrated with my inability to find the right words.

Yes, I stuttered as a child. And hated it.

As a preteen I tried to slow it down and was, bit by bit, able to defeat the problem. I learned to think through what I want to say. I don't stutter as an adult; I think I had it mostly under control in high school.

I had several language/speech issues as a child, and IEPs for speech (among others) until the 3rd grade.

I may stutter/stammer at times as an young adult, but they are few and far in between, as long as I can think through clearly before I speak)
