I really do not wish to start any kind of political argument on what I have found to be an excellent website full of community and understanding, but I do have a personal curiosity that I would like to satisfy. With which political affiliation do most AS individuals sympathize? Anyone who answers the poll will be appreciated, but please don't post anything potentially divisive.

Thanks.

I don't vote. I figure if it's true that all politicians are bad, and I vote for one of them, what does that make me? It's like deciding between the electric chair and lethal injection. They seem different at the surface, but the end result is always the same.

The way I see it, we have one more choice than Communist Russia had.

I really like the American Green Party's philosophy. I never really see them on the ballet which is a shame. I refuse to vote for either Democrat or Republican (both have proven themselves to not be able to solve problems)

Personally, I always wondered why scientists or engineers are not the world's leaders. They are problem solvers which are the people we really need in office right now.

I am a sort of libertarian socialist, I've been very active within that community for a few years.

Isn't that a contradiction, because socialism requires government to take over everything to enforce socialism and libertarianism wants government to stay the hell out of just about everything.

I'm a Republican/Independent because they seem to be the only sane political party at the moment.

Also at the individuals that don't vote, if you don't vote, you don't have any right to complain.

I voted "Other", and reserve the right not to complain.

My political beliefs are very close to libertarian socialism.

Other.

America is run by an aristocracy of super wealthy elites that run for congress and sit on the boards of global corporate conglomerates. They control the government, the banks, the media, and the corporations. There won't be any change short of a revolution or an elected dictator. I liken voting Democrat or Republican at the national level to choosing what color hat the guy stabbing me in the back wears.

There are several links on this page to other sites about it if you want something other than wikipedia.

So, I have no right to be concerned about myself and my future, and no right to speak out against what I think is wrong, and speak up for what I think is right because I'm not the magical age of ~18~ yet? Okey-dokey.

No, Inuyasha, it's not a contradiction, I'd suggest you do some research. Alicedress provided an excellent starting place.

This isn't the Democratic Republic of the Congo, we have the right not to vote while simultaneously having the right to free speech. I'm not sure why anyone thinks exercising one right negates another.

And Zur-Darkstar, a lot of what you said is behind why I became so active within the Libertarian Socialist community.

only since the OP asked, and with the presumption that the OP would want to know why each of use chose the political path we chose, i will say that i vote democrat only because to me, they have been the lesser of two evils, AFAIC. the repubs [both the party as well as party members] have only spit on me for as long as i've been alive. i would vote green if i could be certain that it wasn't essentially throwing my vote away so that a repub could more easily be elected. i would consider voting repub ONLY if they would 1] drop their heartless opposition to universal health care, and 2] drop their opposition to gay marriage. i have the god-given right to be the way god made me.

Creedonian Party.

A party of which I did not name. That name comes from a friend of mine. I had wanted to call it the TR party.

TR= Teddy Roosevelt.

I believe that the government should stay out of our daily lives, and should provide for the defense of this country.

Well, the sample size is small but the results don't seem to be moving any. I just wanted to confirm that very few people with AS consider themselves Republican, and that most subscribe to a third party following or Independent. I'm not sure what this says about our influence on politics as a special interest group.
