I suspect that many people hear that it is common with people with Autism and confuse that with being a symptom of Autism. So if you can cure it, you would be curing Autism, at least partially.
I've never really been prone to GI issues; I think I only get either of those things extremely rarely, and have a pretty strong stomach in general.
However, "They" say our bodies are composed more of bacterial cells than human cells, and that our digestive system has more to do with things like mood regulation and anxiety than we realize. The idea is to view our entire body as a highly-integrated system where one part can exert pivotal influence on all the others; especially the GI system, because all our other symptoms have evolved to be organized around obtaining and digesting nutrients for survival. Or something like that. I'm being lazy.
