That is ridiculous, though I couldn't actually see where it would take 20yrs to join.
Anyway what do you get for joining?
I take it you don't need to be a member to watch cricket games there...surely?
u don't need to be a member to watch cricket games, only to sit in the members stand.
the rest of the stadium is available to all.
Membership benefits include
tickets to all MCG events
tickets to race meetings
memberships at 2 golf courses
access to the function rooms (like the Dining Room)
special offers are available for members
the waiting list has something like 120,000 people on it and this club has been around for over 100 years. The MCC has a limit on the amount of members it can have and the people that want to join outnumber the amount of spots available by a massive amount.
a lot of people sign their children up when they are born.

Wow that must be very expensive!
The footbal club i go to doesn't have anything like this, though it is much smaller, has attendances of 6,500ish on average.
Though it does have a dining room, and a few boxes in one of the stands which people can book for games.
By any chance do you know how many people can be a member at any one time? also can you only be a member for a certain period of time?
Also are you a big cricket fan then?

I like watching cricket occasionally but I like AFL more (it is played at the MCG during the winter).

Not sure about the capacity but I think the amount of members the committee allows is less then 30,000 which is the capacity of the members stand.
I joined the list because Dad encouraged me to.
U can be a member for as long as you want (if you pay the yearly fee which is $555 for a full member it drops to $15 per year if you are a member for 50 years or more.
I don't think any of our (south african) stadiums have something to this magnitude, although there are members pavilions at most grounds. I'm not sure how one becomes a member, but if I had a choice the cricket ground I would choose would be Newlands in Cape Town. Although I would love to see a Boxing Day Test match at the MCG. It's one of my favourite stadiums.
