The Sport/motorsport of remote control auto racing
Just had another race meet myself, VTA we set a rule no quicker than 24 second laps (far more flexible) managed to get my car sitting around 24.2 / 24.3 second laps all day with some decent consistancy so ran away with all 3 racers after a TQ
Using a Plymouth Cuda shell, and was learning my new radio (4pl) so all in all not bad.
Must do some maintenance on it, haven't touched anything for a good 4-5 months.

My former on road racing club thought of that idea about two years ago but decided not to use that idea. That's awesome that you tq'ed and won, Great job!
I'm getting ready for the 2011 season and right now I'm writing the round 4 race report
Ultimate F1 Winter Series Round 4: December 18 2010
There was a new layout that was setup for round 4 of this race, it was more technical and the night before the round, my dad and I practiced at the track and set a lap record for F1. The night we practiced helped us prepare for tomorrow’s event. The next morning, we got to the track and we just did some practice runs and then got ready for qualifying
Qualifying
In this race I start out first, as the race progresses one my car is pushing badly off acceleration. (Where your car will not want to turn when you let off the gas) The car’s handling then does come around and is drives better. At the end of the session, I end up taking third on the grid.
A main 1
With me starting on the #3 spot on the grid, I feel confident that my car will handle great and I could take the first round. The race starts and as a few laps settle in, everyone goes in for their pit stop. Ater the leader goes in for his pit stop, dad yellsat me to head in to the pits and get my sticker. I leave the pits right behind the leader and chase right after him. I hang with him and do not lose sight of him. Then first place goes in for his second pit stop and I take the lead, then I go in for mine the next lap and get right out in front of him as a leave pit road. Jonathan Christian, the second place car, is right behind me however he make a mistake and for the rest of the race I am able to stay ahead and take A main 1 with a total of 11 points
A main 2
This time I am up front, and I feel I could have a good chance of taking the second win in this race. Once the race begins, I notice that my car is very loose off acceleration, turning left and is hard to drive, halfway through the first lap, I get hit from the rear end of Jonathan Christian, and get sent back to 5th place, I do however, two laps later get up to 3rd. However after that big scuffle my front body shell clip comes off and my shell is flapping in the wind. On my first pit stop, my dad has a spare body clip and put it on my car as my first sticker is put on. Three laps later, someone run right into the rear of me and flips my car over and one of my motor wires become unplugged just a bit, I have to go into the pits and my dad has to connect the wires to my motor running again. I accidentally pinch his fingers between the gears of his car; I end up finishing the race 4th, a lap in front of third. With a total of 8 points
A main 3
In this race, I sit 5th on the grid due to the fact that the racer in front of me had a faster overall time in the B main than I did in the A main. Once the race starts I get on the inside of 4th place on the first turn and get by him. My car is understeering off-acceleration and is not handling as well as the drivers in front of me. I try to pursuit them and catch up to them, however their car are handling much better than mine. At the last few seconds of the race, there was a big battle between first and second. First place Kevin Cole, was able to finish ahead of Jonathan Christian with me finishing third with 9 points. At the end of the day I finished Third overall, with a total of 28 points. I am now one point behind Jonathan Christian in the overall points championship.
My next race is Round 5 of the Ultimate F1 Winter Series, Thank you everyone for reading and my next race report will come after that race.
This Saturday is round 5 of the Ultimate F1 Winter Series. January 16 2011, is the Aliso Veijo, CA Tamiya Championship Series regional race. In that event, I will be competing in the F1 class and the Front Wheel Drive class. I will give more details about those classes after Round 5 of the Ultimate F1 Series.
Ultimate F1 Winter Series, Round 5, January 8th 2011
My dad and I practiced the night before the race and we got the car very well setup, my mom painted a new body shell for my Formula 1 car, my dad also added a new suspension system on the front end of my car which made it handle better, after that we headed home a got ready for race day. Today there are 11 cars racing today, so there is a all maximum total of 11 points to be awarded.
Qualifying
As the race begins, I roll of the line first because, that is where I started, I drive aggressive and my car is handling decent, I come up traffic and get by them clean with a few risky passes. The session ends with me qualifying 3rd.
Round 1
As the tone sounds, first place traction rolls coming into the first corner and I’m able to get by. Then with one lap almost complete, I’m able to get by the racers in front of me, Jonathan Christian, who got into a tangle with a lapped race on the first lap. Throughout the rest of the race, I listen to my dad who is yelling out order to tell me when to go in for my two pit stops. The first round ends with me ending up taking the first round win with 11 points.
Round 2
This time I start on the front of the grid and I have a good chance of winning, and taking the overall win. The race start out good as I pull away from the pack after the two racers behind me gets into a pile up. I go in for my first pit stop, and gains ground on the other racer. However, the fastest car on the track, Kevin Cole is gaining ground on me. I go in for my second pit stop, and I can sense I’m home free, because Kevin has made many mistakes. With two minutes to go, the is a lapped car, who is faster behind me and a car in front of me who is slower, as we come out of the chicane turning right, I try to get under him, and I turn in too early and I hit the board causing my steering to lock up allowing second and third to get by as the turn marshal tries to unlock my steering. I am able to finish the race in third with a total of 9 points, with total of 20.
Round 3
I start on the grid third this time. The race starts off without an hitch, I am able to stay with Jonathan Christian for the first few laps, then he is able to pull away. Second place stuffs it in the middle of the infield and as I try to drive around him, he is marshaled and get into me but lets me by. There are two cars behind me that are faster than I am. As I go into the my first pit stop, I overshoot the pit area and have to come around again, I’m able to get my sticker, but I lose two positions and am dropped down to forth. I am able t make my second pit stop good, but I have lost too much time, I end up finishing forth with a total of 8 points, with an overall total of 28 points, finishing 2nd overall, I am now 4 points behind Jonathan Christian, who is leading the point series.
Thank you for reading my race report of Round 5 of the Ultimate F1 Winter Series, my next race is this Sunday the 16th of January at the Aliso Viejo Tamiya Championship Series regional race. I will write a report on that event.
Today is the first day of practice for the Tamiya Championship Regional race, In Aliso Viejo, CA. I will take this time to explain the rules and the classes that I will be running in this event.
One of the classes that I am running is the F1 class. This is based off the real Formula 1 series that is run today, these cars are rear wheel drive, and use the same type of body shells that are used on today's Formula 1 full scale cars. The second class that I am racing is the, Front Wheel Drive class. These cars are front wheel drive and use touring car sedan body shells that were run in the 90's in European racing leagues.
Now I will take some time to explain the race format. For qualifiers, instead of your best 5 minute run that counts, you will be timed on your 5 fastest laps. The driver with the lowest added up laps is the top qualifier and will sit on the pole position.
Tamiya Championship Series race, Aliso Viejo,CA, January 16 2011.
My dad and I arrived to the Tamiya America raceway around 7:00 AM and signed in to registration; we did a few practice laps on the track, and then got ready for the race. WE had been practicing for this race for two weeks
I will take some time to explain the qualifying format. In previous races, qualifying uses a staggered start and your best overall time in 5 minutes counts, this race is different. The races are heads up, on the tone start and your 5 best overall laps count, the racer with the 5 fastest overall laps is the op qualifier (TQ). There are two qualifiers, and a main.
Qualifier 1: Front Wheel Drive.
In this race, I start at the back of the pack, when the race starts I let everyone race off and get a 6 second lead on me, so I would have room to get a clean fast lap in, it does work but then I catch up to traffic more than a lap later, I’m doing ok but my car isn’t up to par. I end qualifying 8th overall in the first round.
Qualifier 1: Formula 1
This race has 11 cars, and most of them are not experienced drivers, I am starting in the middle of the pack, but my strategy is to let all the racers by so I can get some room for a clean lap, to an extent, it works. However I catch up to slower racer much later and have to slow down, puling off into the dirty areas of the track which upsets my dad, I end up finishing 5th overall out of 11 racers.
Qualifier 2: Front Wheel Drive.
In this round my dad advised me to race, instead of wait for an opening, once the race start I am four tenths of a second slower than in my previous round, I am doing ok but I could be a little better, I finish 5th I the pack and when my 5 best laps are added up I make the A main in 10th by less than a tenth of a second.
Qualifier 2: Formula 1
I get off to a bad start in the beginning of the race when a car spun out in front of me in the second turn, I am able to fight my way through traffic and move up to 5th, however that’s as far as I am able to move up and that’s where I finish. My 5 best laps are added up and I start 5th on the grid in the A main.
A main: Front Wheel Drive.
Before the race starts out with me at the back of the pack, the top qualifier decided to go home for some reason and let the other racers duel it out, which moves me up to 9th. I get off to a good start where the 8th place racer rolls over and I move up a position. With tow minute into the race I am dicing it out with the racer in front of and one of the other racers from of the field had got into a scuffle and is in front of the racer in front of me. Two laps later I am able to make a gutsy pass on both of them, however I get sideswiped in the rear end of my car coming onto the backstretch, dropping me back tow positions. I try to make up ground on the racer in front of me, but my motor is slowing down, and the racer behind me is catching up quick. I do get in striking distance of the racer ahead but the racer behind rolled over a corner and hit my car in the rear causing me to lose time. I end up finishing the race 6th out of 9 racers.
A main: Formula 1
I got off to a really bad start, where I got violently hit in the side sending me back to near the back of the field, I am however, a minute later able to move up through the racers and get up to 5th. I try my hardest to catch up to the rest of the racer but they have way too much ground on me. During the last minute of the race I am able to gain one more position, but that’s about it. I end up finishing 4th overall, which is my best finish in Formula 1 at the Tamiya America track. My previous best finish in this class was 5th place at the Tamiya raceway, at the Tamiya Nationals back in 1998 when I was 13 years old. It was also my first time I had raced on the track, and my first time to California.
Thank you for ready my race report of the Tamiya Championship Series race in Aliso Viejo, CA. My next race is Round 6 of the Ultimate F1 Series on Saturday January 29 2011, and the TQ Pan Car Grand Prix, the next day Sunday.
i have a correction to make. Today is round 6 of the ultimate f1 series and tommorow is the TQ pan car grand prix. Unfortunatly I will not be competing in the pan car grand prix due to the fact that there is a bent part on my car for a certain class and i don't have a replacment for it. I will let you know how round 6 goes.
