I tend not to order UFC bouts myself but every time friends order em and I watch I think it would be pretty easy for me to get addicted to. First of all I love the honor, I find it really inspiring to see what these guys have done for themselves, for their lives, and in effect what they're doing for the people around them and in a sense society - makes me almost want to do the same (I doubt I'd have the urge or desire to be a cage fighter or anything but I think my instinctive urge to be part of the protectorate is kicking into overdrive).

We just got back from a local BW3 and watched Affliction: Banned. Sounds like they took a huge commercial loss from poor marketing, maybe Donald Trump was in attendance wondering if he wanted a hand in things; I'm not sure. I don't know the fighters that well all in all but I do like to see Andrei Arlovski (threw it down classic tonight) and my first time seeing Fedor Emelianenko - holy #$%^&*, the guy's a machine.

My uncle was real big into Tae Kwon Do, since he was real big on that sort of thing I got to see the first couple UFC's; ie. Gracie and Shamrock. Up until recently though I've been pretty far out of the loop.

Fedor Emelianenko is amazing. That fight made the UFC look pretty bad in my opinion. I mean he beat a two time title holder in 36 seconds. I can't wait until he fights Couture....it was awsome how Couture said thanks to Fedor in Russian. I'm pretty excited about this Affliction thing, I hope it does well. The last few UFC cards have been pretty crappy.

i watch it when i can. i don't order, i watch the free ones on spike. i've considered getting into it, i'm just too involved in rowing right now. once i'm done rowing i might get into it. i've done jiu-jitsu in the past so i've got a bit of a background in it, about 7 years.

I have not been able to see Fedor fight. I have heard alot of praise for him.

It sucks that some phenomenal matches can't be set up because of contract complexities and fiercely partisan organizations.

I haven't watched a pay-per-view of MMA yet. Like beef_bourito, I just watch the free ones on Spike or late night reruns on the WB.

I agree. When I see the respect they show for each other after attempting to destroy each other, I realize it ultimately is about the purity of competition and survival and not about ego or money for many of these guys. Their dedication and discipline in the face of pending brutality and the humanity they show after the fight is over amazes me everytime.

i love those rivalries where they absolutely hate eachother and want to demolish their opponent, and yet still show them respect. that's why i didn't really like tito ortiz, he mocked his opponent. he did man up and apologize to shamrock in the last fight, but he's not as respectful as others in the sport.

This sport irritates me. When a man is on his back, he is PINNED! End of story. Of course I am applying the rules to wrestling to this "MMA" nonsense, but it's still rather annoying to see a guy getting his face beat in while laying on this back. Seems less a sport, and more a show of brutality to me, just my opinion there guys. I respect the participants, especially the effort put into these bouts, but coming from my perspective the stuff I've seen on TV's a bit much to stomach...

The funny thing is, the fighters who entered MMA from a wrestling background (instead of martial arts or boxing) seem to be the ones who specialize the "ground-and-pound".

MMA owns. Not when one dude is just laying there and doing nothing, but other than that it owns. As for Tito Ortiz, I don't think he was actually that serious, he was probably just trying to get more people to watch his fights. I heard how people were cheering him on when he was fighting Ken Shamrock, it works and I respect him for that.

I watch some UFC WIRED from time to time. I always wanted to try to learn Ju-Jitsu, especially the Brazilian style which many MMA fighters are trained in , but simply ended up doing Tae-Kwon-Do when i was little , just like every other little kid did lol.

I'm mostly concerned with how unsafe that whole thing looks. The gloves the fighters were have almost no padding to them, unlike boxing gloves. That's got to lead to the potential for more serious injuries to both the puncher and the punchee, especially since so many more MMA punches connect directly with the fighters' heads/faces, and with much greater force, because the two combatants are so much closer to each other.

Also, it seems like the fights are way too short. Don't they usually end in the first or second rounds?

I like MMA, aswell as boxing and K-1. Watching the UFC at the bar with NT friends is good, because we can all be into it and they appreciate my technical knowledge.

Most combat sports are pretty brutal for my tastes accept true wrestling, which just stresses me out to watch, lol. However, once I start watching I can't get enough of a good Kung Fu movie/fight scene. I know I'm strange. I guess I like all that's involved with it, and really appreciate it for the true art that it is, but at the same time don't like seeing people get hurt for real.

I guess its one of those things I feel only should be REALLY done in true self defense or pure art and exercise, instead of as "sport".
