I'm ready for NFL football, but NOT on ESPN or NBC. I hate NIGHT games! None of the teams I like do well at them. Plus Al Michaels sucks.

Oh, crap! Is it football season already?

Time to renew my library card...

Heh. I have always liked Al Michaels. Reasonable minds can differ!

Yeah, I am totally ready for NFL football!

It could be worse, though. They could have kept Dennis Miller. When he was on ABC with Michaels, I used to mutate my TV and listen to the play by play on radio while I watched.
I think the big problem I have with Michaels goes back to his "meltdown" at Candlestick Park when the 10-17-89 Bay Area earthquake struck at the beginning of a World series game. I remember it well. I was actually there at the time. ABC should have shown him the door then due to his behaviour that made old Herb Morrison seem calm when the Hindenburg blew up.
I do have a lot of respect for Madden, though. I grew up a Raiders fan (my hometown was Modesto, CA), and I thought it was cool how he made Plunkett and the boys do ballet class.

Aha! The Dennis Miller days...I remember them. I did the same thing with the TV and radio! :)

I didn't see that, but I heard about it. When that happened, I was in a law school evening class. (Yeah, I know how to have fun!)

Madden is great. Yeah, that is indeed cool. A fair number of boxers do ballet, too, in order to improve their footwork. I'm not coordinated enough to do that, but it's not uncommon for ballet to be used as an add-on to improve sports performance.

Here's some of what you missed. The final few seconds of this piece contains the beginning of Michael's "freak out"...

How does one become "ready" for sitting around and doing nothing?

Are you ready to race me in a 100yard dash?

The question for any Patriots fan should be "Are you ready for game 19?"
(Sorry I had to rub it in, but there will be only one '72 Dolphins).

As it happens, I was living in Ft Lauderdale at the time, and was an avid Dolphins fan... it was sooooo sweet :D

So I agree with you 100%. What happened last Super Bowl hit the fans (including myself) incredibly hard... I don't ever remember feeling quite like that... it was truly one of the greatest "gotcha's" in sports history.

There are only two teams that I would like to see go undefeated: the Patriots, of course, or the Dolphins, who set the mark to begin with.

Sorry, Ed. but the Patriots will never enter "Perfectville" under Belicheck. Plus any true fan would never want their team there with an *asterisk* next to their name.
