My medicine
I currently take a stimulant Rx medication to better control my symptoms of ADHD. When I first went on it, I felt on top of the world. I felt confident, like I didn't care about other's problems (which was a big deal for me - I usually went out of my way to help others to a fault) - "not my problem!". In all, I just felt good - good about myself and what I could do. If I didn't know how, I'd learn. If I knew, I taught.
When I first went on it, I experienced some curious impulsiveness issues. I had strange desires and wanted to do...stuff I won't get into here. These feelings went away as quickly as they came on.
This was months ago.
Now I'm not feeling that way anymore (the confidence part). I wish I could get it back.
This reminds me that I need to make another thread about something similar.
Your Rx is probably not unlike speed, and you are getting used to taking it. I find if I abstain from foods that cause lethargy, I'm about 3 times more sensitive to caffeine then I usually am.

We are not so different from potted plants in that, if given everything we need to be properly nourished, the outcome can be incredibly contrary to when we are not. A flower won't grow in flour, and neither can we.
The trouble with meds that are taken long term is that people often build up a tolerance for them. Then they don't work as well any more, until you up the dose. Then you build up a tolerance to the new dose, so you have to up it again, and again. Eventually, though, you reach danger levels on the drug, and can't up the dose any more, without causing dangerous health risks. Also, there is the very real risk of becoming addicted. It's best to try non med coping methods or natural health supplements first, as they are safer. Here are some non med coping methods:
- Exercise. It generates mood boosting endorphins.
- Read funny stories and watch funny shows. Humor also generates endorphins.
- Eat healthy, and enough of it. A healthier diet will boost your immune system and is also good for your mind. Skimping on amount of food leads to depression, crankiness, and being more prone to get sick.
- Get enough rest. Being tired leads to depression, crankiness, and being more prone to get sick, too.
- Listen to and/or play music. This is mood boosting.
- Take courses, either in person, or online. Some of the online ones are free. The in person ones are a good way to meet people.
- Volunteer. There are people worse off than we are, who would really appreciate the help. It's also a good way to meet people, and boost your self image and mood.
- Take up a hobby or join a club. These are good ways to meet people who share your interests.
- Get involved in community activities. Attend town meetings, events at local libraries and other local organizations. Attend local sporting events, fairs, and art shows. Attend and/or participate in local theater groups. Attend events held at local houses of worship. These are all great ways to meet people and boost your self image and mood.
If you aren't interested in trying these methods or they don't help, consult your psych doc.
