So, my first book has been published.

The other day, I stumbled upon this site called free-ebooks.net. Not only does it have lots of free e-books on offer, but it also allows authors to publish their own works (as long as they purchase a VIP membership). And the best thing: published authors on the site get a free lifetime VIP membership!

Having finished the proofreading stage of my first book recently, I contemplated publishing it on said site. And so I took it upon myself to publish it there yesterday. Within two hours, the book was successfully published on the site.

Anyway, the book, titled Assorted Ramblings of a Different Young Adult, is essentially a collection of 100 short texts written in a "diary" style. A lot of the ramblings, as I call them, are self-reflective and cover various subjects, ranging from love and friendship to video games and music. Two life-changing experiences I had are also documented within it.

Congratulations, more so about being able to finish a whole book than for publishing it. Staying motivated and focused enough to finish a project like that can be hard.

So anyone gets to publish their book if they buy a membership? I need to keep that site in mind in case I won't be able to find a publisher for mine...

Yep! The VIP membership basically lets you download as many e-books as you like, and in a wider selection of formats, where the basic memberships are limited to 5 downloads a month in either PDF or TXT format. It's either $8 monthly or $50 for a lifetime VIP membership - that is unless you're a published author.

Well, uh... Would 9 downloads in 3 days be considered "many" considering I haven't promoted the book very extensively?

I’ve never encountered that website before, but I assume they have some kind of ranking system where you can compare your number of downloads to the other authors on the site. I wouldn’t recommend checking that - it’s way too easy to get hooked on those reports! The best advice I can give you is the same advice you’ll get so often from other authors you’ll soon hear it in your sleep: the only reliable way to generate more sales is to publish more books. So keep writing!
